Switzerland itinerary

This is our itinerary so far:
Arrive Zurich
3 nights in Luzern
4 nights in B.O. area
1 night Zermatt
2 nights in Lugano or Lake Como
1 night - not decided
1 night Pontresina
1 night Zurich - early departure next day

Should we add 1 more night in Zermatt - or add one to Pontresina or Lugno/Como?

Is this doable or too much traveling? Anything we missed?

Thanks so much....love this site as I've learned so much!

Hi JanP,

Wow, this is really quite a lot of moving around -- far too much for my own taste. Plus, your travel between spots are all pretty long: BO to Zermatt is 3h28, and Zermatt to Lugano is 5h20, and Como to Pontresina is 5h50. You know that, generally, you lose a half of a day each time you switch your base (what with packing up & checking out of a hotel, checking in and unpacking, then orienting yourself to the new town).

With 13 days, I think I would choose maybe three or four spots, top. You have seven here.

Hope this helps!

Yes, thanks so much for your input. That's exactly why I posted here. Everyone has good ideas. Which would be the priorities and which would you delete?

Thanks again!

Hi again,

I would choose only ONE mountain area; either the BO or Zermatt or Pontresina. Then I would spend 4-5 days there and really enjoy it with hikes and walks and cable car rides.

Then move to Lugano and enjoy that, again, for 4-5 days. Then back to Zurich or Luzern for departure.

Maybe others will give another point of view --

I don't have the exact Swiss experience to say which place to go and which to cut, but I also would take your list down by about 1/2.

My personal minimum is 4 days each location (except perhaps the last if you just need to sleep there to catch a plane out). Your original itinerary has way too much time on the train for my taste.
