Switzerland: 7 day itinerary
We are planning to spend 7 days in Switzerland, by car. Here is my current planning; please let me know what could be improved in it.
Day 1: arriving from Aosta, Italy. Visiting Chillon, may be a short boat tour of the lake. Sleeping near Montreux.
Day 2: Lausanna.
Day 3: French countryside, around lake Gruyeres. Avenches. Sleeping near Avenches.
Day 4: Murten. Bern. Sleeping in Interlaken.
Day 5, 6: Berner Oberland. Open Air Museum at Ballenberg.
Day 7: Fortress Furigen Museum. Luzern.
Day 8: Luzern in the morning. Departing for Frankfurt.

You asked how this itinerary could be improved.... If you haven't been to the majority of these places before, the amount of time alloted everywhere will only give you the briefest introduction to some wonderful places. I would reduce the number of cities and amount of driving.

Hi Igorek,
The itinerary looks fine to me, as long as you have done your research and these places are where you want to be.
We spent 10 days in Switzerland this past September and had a great time, so I'll just mention my favorite places/experiences from the trip. We enjoyed the castle Chillon and Lausanne was nice but it if you're limited for time you needn't stay two nights in the area. We enjoyed Murten- it's a nice little town to spend the evening(much better than sleeping in Interlaken, which I don't recommend - stay in the mountains instead).
We stayed in a hotel in Weggis and took the boat into Lucerne. Again Lucerne was nice but a half a day there is plenty if you're limited for time. If the weather is nice, you need to spend at least a full day and a night(preferably two) in the mountains of the Berner Oberland - like Wengen. We did the hit and run visiting of the popular Swiss cities but made it a point to spend three days in Wengen hiking, relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Those three days were the highlight of the trip. Of course it didn't hurt that the weather was fantastic for those days..If it had been raining, it would have been a different story.
I hope this helps..Whitey

Thanks whitney. When you said that the area is not worth 2 days on a quick trip, did you mean that Chillon and Lausanne could be both visited in one day (I don't think it would make sense), or that one of them is not worth a visit ? I would like to see the Museum de l'Art Brut, which would make a full day for Lausanne a minimum.

How much time you spend in an area depends on what you like to do on vacation, and how much time you have. I live near the ocean here in Rhode Island; and the largest mountain(hill)in the whole state is only 800 ft above sea level, so I like to be in the mountains on vacation and not so much near the water.
Lausanne and Montreux have nice waterfronts/old towns to explore but since I had an aggressive schedule I couldn't devote the time to the area that it warranted.
We self-toured Chillon in about 1.5 hours, but you could easily spend 3 hours or more there if you had time.
I was suggesting that you should not sleep in Interlaken but in Wengen, and try to find some time to ride some lifts while you were there. You definitely have a solid itinerary and it doesn't seem too aggressive to me because you have it centered around the museums you want to visit. I think that you'll have a great time, enjoy!
