Swiss trains & baggage
Is it possible to check luggage from a Swiss departure city through to that day's final Swiss destination, even if we plan to stop in different cities along the way? For example, we might go from Zurich to Basel in the morning, spend the day in Basel, then continue on to Lausanne for the night. Can we check our bags through to Lausanne?
Thanks for your help on this.

In my experience, it can easily be done. Have a look at the CFF site at:

I have a question too about baggage. We
will be going from Wurzberg(Germany) to Interlaken and will have to make a few changes to get there. Do we check our luggage for each leg or can we take it to our seats with us? We will have one bag each.
Thanks, Linda

For 'carryon' luggage, there's no limitation except your own common sense and concern for other travelers. Cars have overhead storage (good for reasonably-sized luggage) and then large shelves at the end(s) or storage between the rows (seats back-to-back have space in between). In a crowded train, space can get very tight; if it's less full and there are empty seats, you can sometimes put your bags on the seat or the floor beside you (discourage doing this as it will be in the way of people moving down the aisles); if you aren't in a seat that faces another (see the back-to-back configuration), you can put your bag on the floor and your feet on top - not recommended unless the bag is small (muscle cramps!). I don't know of any size restriction for checked baggage; seriously, CARS are shipped by rail, so an over-sized bag wouldn't be a problem - unlike airlines, trains have no weight considerations, so they just charge you for what you ship.
