Swiss Train Flood Update
The torrential rains that hit Switzerland this fall are still wreaking havoc on the mountain train system:
the following is based on an official statement from the Swiss Railways.
Interlaken-Zweisimmen (part of Golden Pass route) - trains running normally to Wimmis but then a bus substitution goes to Zweisimmen - then train to Montreux - train service is due to resume in late October.
Lucerne-Interlaken Ost - normal train service resumed Oct 1
Lucerne-Engleberg line: trains running but between Dallenwil and Engelberg there is a bus substitution.
Interlaken Ost-Grindelwald - bus substitute until further notice. Trains are running Interlaken Ost-Lauterbrunnen - trains OK Lauterbrunnen to jungfraujoch.

PalQ, I have written several times (without response) to the Engelberg tourist office, inquiring about a possible timetable for the opening up of the entire train line from Lucerne.
Our trip isn't planned until next July, but if I can't get any response, then perhaps I should look to stay elsewhere.
Our current plan is to take the train from Berlin into Switzerland, then stay in Switz. for a week before heading home. We like the idea of Engelberg (higher elevation) rather than low at Lucerne or other lake area. Looking at the TellPass for the week there.

Please don't let the bus service between Dallenwil and Engelberg stop you from going to Engelberg. The bus is very reliable.
Here's a website for the current train schedule between Lucerne and Engelberg:
http://www.zentralbahn.ch/documents/...5_10_01_v2.pdf
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any Swiss/German websites about when the train will be fully-operating again.

Thanks schuler for that web link. Seems that the bus service runs very regularly. It also shows the last scheduled bus time to be second week of December, so perhaps things are improving for trains to run to Engelberg.
We'll be staying there a week. Once the chalets start showing their July prices, I'll begin my quest for a place to stay. We won't have a car, so we'll need to be within walking distance of the station. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
