Swiss pass yes?

Hello fellow Fodors,

First time going to Switzerland on solo travel before my business meetings.
My plan is Zurich (Day 1, 1 night), Wengen (Day 2 and Day 3) and i was thinking if its worth travelling to Zermatt for the Matterhorn on Day 4 and spend a night there before my last stop at Lugano (final stop).

So my question is
1. I've heard of Matterhorn's awesome view but with only 5 days should i just continue exploring Wengen and the nearby ?

2. With the above itinerary, do you recommend if i get a 4 days Swiss Pass - but should be purchased on Day 2 on the way from Zurich to Wengen?

All my guesses , appreciate your kind feedback

The view OF the Matterhorn is impressive even though you've seen a zillion pictures of it. The view of the Monte Rosa Massif below it is also impressive.

BUT, there are many times when the peak itself is shrouded in clouds and furthermore Zermatt itself is, IMO, not worth the trip but your opinion may vary.

I would spend at least 2-3 FULL days in the Berner Oberland at a minimum.

The itinerary Zurich - Berne - Spiez (may be Interlaken area) - Brig (may be Zermatt, Saas Fee or Aletsch Glacier) - Domodossola - Centovalli Express or Stresa/Borromean Islands - Locarno - Bellinzonna - Lugano makes sense.

The weather in the whole area is always unpredictable and nobody can gurantee that you will see Jungfrau, Matterhorn or Monte Rosa once you will be there.

Rail passes: all depends on the mountain railways you will use. Check http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/b...etrangers.html

For lots on Swiss transports and passes and travel in the Jungfrau Region check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

Not sure that Half-Fare Card may be a better deal than a Swiss Pass - check it out.
