I cannot claim to know Lanzarote well but, because my husband is more than happy to drive wherever we travel, we do see what the road systems are like
We have not been to any of the markets on Lanzarote I am afraid. Our trips have always been more about enjoying the weather compared with that in the UK. Talking of which; do be aware of the strong breeze which is pretty constant especially in the summer.

ekscrunchy,
For Pontevedra's best tortilla española and pulpo, we enjoyed very much our meal at LA CASA DE LAS 5 PUERTAS, also Repsol recommended. For me, the quality of a restaurant can sometimes be judged by the jamón ibérico they serve; in this case it's 5 JOTAS. And they've won awards for their tortilla.

Thank you SO much for this! I've been reading about restaurants in Pontevedr just now and in addition to those you listed, these stood out for me as possibilities; what do you think?
CASA ROMAN
EIRADO DA LENA
ALAMEDA 10
Maribel, PEPE VIEIRA?? (I cannot see Maribona's review as it is blocked for non subscribers)

Yes, Pepe Vieira for sure, which has a new, very contemporary boutique hotel, and don't forget D'Berto in O Grove, one of the finest seafood houses in Spain (Maribona loves it).
Yes to Alameda 10 and definitely Eirado de Lena.
I haven't been to Casa Román.
And there´s Casa Solla in Poio, just outside Pontevedra.

This YouTube has some great photos of D'Berto; he also features Gueyu Mar, which I missed during our trip to Asturias.....looks like reason to return!
D'Berto now tops my list of where to eat during the 3 days in Pontevedra. (You can ignore most of the chatter). I got a few cooking tips from the video....how they cook the lobster in lots of olive oil, etc.

eks,
Here's Maribona's review in Spanish of D'Berto. It sports 2 Repsol suns and OAD (Opinionated About Dining) lists it as the 4th best "casual" restaurant in Europe. I wouldn't miss it for the best mariscos.
https://www.abc.es/gastronomia/abci-...5_noticia.html
If it's behind a pay wall (I'm a subscriber), here's the pdf-
And Philippe Regol's review (a Catalan French food bloggers whom I follow)

Maribel, thanks so much! It was fascinating how they made the fried lobster in the video I posted (the YouTube). This is exactly how I like my shellfish----unadorned, not muddled up with other ingredients. I will certainly go there and I imagine it will be a highlight....
I am on the fence about Pepe Vieira, only because that would leave only one meal in Pontevedra, as we only have 3 nights, at the Parador.. And the reason for the 3 nights has to do with the Canarias flight on Vueling from Santiago, which only flies at a decent hour once a week and the Parador in Pontevedra was booked for one of the nights we could have stayed there. I booked this trip without doing anything more than the minimum of research, so that's where it is..live and learn. I do now wish we had more time in Galicia and less on Lanzarote but given the fact that the partner hates shellfish, I suppose this will be fine....new places, new foods.....what could be better!?!

Hi eks,
Since D'Berto is a must, I would stay in Pontevedra for the other 2 nights and definitely book Eirado de Leña but there are only 6 tables and it offers 2 tasting menus only. But Pepe Vieira is also tasting menus only, 3 of them.

Hi, Maribel!!
So if I understand you correctly, with the three nights in Pontevedra, taxi for one meal (maybe lunch??) at D'Berto, have one dinner at Eirado da Lena Open Sunday lunch; closed Monday) and MAYBE try Pepe Vieira (the only option there would be Sunday lunch, as they are closed Monday and Tuesday) OR stay in Pontevedra instead and have dinner at:
CASA ROMAN. ?? (open Sunday lunch; closed Mondays)
ALAMEDA 10. ??? (open Sunday lunch and dinner, I believe; closed Mondays)
Yet again, the Sunday/Monday issue is at work because I am in Pontevedra for the nights of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday..the hitch will be where to eat on Monday....
I'm trying to find the opening days and hours for D'Berto but not getting solid information online....if you know, let me know, otherwise I willl write to the Parador and ask them.....the restaurant is closed until March.

I would put Casa Roman in front of Alameda 10, which has gone downhill a bit in recent years. Some of the reviews bear this out. Check out the one where the owner complains about having to look at the ‘hairy legs’ of one his customers… to his face!
Some of these places still trade on past glories…

I would certainly defer to Mactheknife60 about Casa Román vs Alameda 10, as I haven´t been to the former, and it´s been several years since I've eaten at the latter. Some places do trade on past glories, for sure.
I can't find the current, accurate, certain opening days and hours of D'Berto. This is what popped up, but I'm not sure it's accurate. I wouldn't dine at a top marisquería on a Monday.
De martes a sábado de 13:30 a 15:30 y de 20:30 a 22:40.Domingo de 13:20 a 15:30.Lunes de 13:20 a 15:30.
Like El Campero, it's a "templo del producto". BTW the King Emeritus just ate there while staying in Sanxenxo.
If you want to return to O Grove for another meal, there's also El Culler de Pau. It has beautiful views of the sea from the dining room, has its own vegetable garden and boasts 3 Repsol suns. It takes reservations for Sunday lunch only from 1:30-2:30, bookable online.
Here's a review from El Mundo and another from Gastroeconomy about the garden
https://www.elmundo.es/metropoli/gas...3788b45a4.html
https://www.gastroeconomy.com/2022/0...a-invernadero/
I've stayed twice nearby at the Gran Hotel La Toja.

Culler de Pau and Pepe Vieira are the only two establishments in Galicia with two Michelin stars. Pepe Vieira is more convenient if you’re based in Pontevedra as it’s about 14kms, via the coast road (Poio, Combarro, Sanxenxo, Portonovo etc). Culler de Pau is 35kms by the shortest route (the same coast road) so that will set you back at least €40-50 each way.
D’Berto (O Grove town) is 7kms from Culler de Pau (Reboredo). If you’re looking for quality seafood, Monday is the worst possible day of the week here as there’s no fresh stuff landed on Sundays. What they serve Sundays will be refridgerated from the Saturday. For this reason many restaurants, not only marisquerías, choose to close on Mondays. People want fresh produce, understandably.

ekscrunchy,
Speaking of Casa Solla and Noor (where you have reservations for your March trip), if you have Amazon Prime video, you might enjoy the series "De la vida al plato", with veteran actor Juan Echanove, where he visits 8 acclaimed restaurants for an in-depth look and chat with the chefs.
The restaurants are Noor, Culler de Pau, El Celler de Can Roca, Etxebarri (where you and your partner have dined), El Corral de la Morería in Madrid, Lera (another "templo del producto"--platos de caza), Echaurren en Ezcaray, Casa Solla in Poio and Ricard Camarena in Valencia. We thought it was very entertaining, and I know you'd enjoy the episode at Etxebarri.

Maribel, Very exciting! I do have Prime and will watch this week.
Marc, that is very helpful. Those taxis prices (whew!) but I figured that....years ago I never would have done that, but I smooth myself by thinking it will be less than renting a car for the week. Very helpful about avoiding the seafood on Sunday and Monday. Pepe Viera is open Sundays and that might be th day we go there since it's the only day they are open when we are in the area.
I wonder if we ought to leave Santiago by taxi on Saturday and go to D"Berto for lunch on that day. Then continue on to Pontevedra. All by taxi but at least we won't have the RT from Pontevedra to D'Berto!!! For me, the trouble with lunch is that the breakfasts are usually so great at the hotels that I'm not ready to eat a few hours later...but we can book a late table at D'Berto and I can rein myself in that morning at the breakfast table!!!
I'm very excited about this trip, even though I really rushed the planning aspect. It seems like a crazy combination but when I saw those flights direct to Lanzarote from Santiago, I just went for it.. I'm sorry I combined both destinations in one thread.

To add information about D'Berto; I received this e-mail from the Parador in Pontevedra, about two hours after I mailed the query:
<<Responding your e-mail we inform you that dBerto's Restaurant opens the 13th of March. Their opening hours are:
Wednesday to saturday from 13:30 to 15:30 and from 20:30 to 22:40. Sunday 13:20 to 15:30. Monday from 13:20 to 15:30. Tuesday closed. Closed from November to March.>>
So from thee information kindly provided, in above posts, I should plan on visiting D'Berto on Saturday, as I mentioned in my post, above, since Sunday and Monday are not the best days for seafood. Correct??
I think I will initiate a discussion on a food-focused forum, as some of this chatter is likely not of much interest to many folks here...too personal and too food-focused..not sure if I am allowed to say this here, but hungry onion.org is good for food-focused travel.
