RE: janeg

I try to make my spoofs just realistic enough to set a good hook. Hope you are not offended by the choice of subjects and enjoy my modest attempts at a few harmless laughs.

Degas, you can keep on writing all you want! You are too funny for words. (Oh dear, that would defeat the purpose, then, wouldn't it?)

RE: dln

I based this story on a pompous couple who hounded us into splitting the substantial cost of an "expert" guide. The guy was awful, had an ego the size of Texas and really abused us with "extra" fees and suggested donations.

If I were as clever at parody as you, Degas, I would write a story about the father and son duo who marched into a small cafe near Notre Dame and asked, loudly enough for us to hear several tables away, "Do you have any American coffee?"

You know how the stereotype of the surly French persists? And the one about loud Americans (reported even today on another post)? We smugly thought that such things were nothing but urban legends spread by the sophisticated to gull the unclean masses. Until we saw Dad and Sonny Boy in Paree...

RE: dln

I don't know if you read "Perfect Paris Trip", it was number 39 in the France section. That jerk might be related to Dad and Sonny boy.

Degas, you have the makings of a great satirical book on travel.
put it together, submit it to a publisher who deals with this type of book and send me a copy!

Degas, you really do have a talent for grabbing an audience's total attention until they can't help but read on, only to realize it's a ruse. I am sure there must be somewhere that you can channel that finely honed talent. (But you can still practice here on gullible ones like me in the meantime.)

Degas, darlin! I think I found those expensive silk undies the last time we were in Paris!
On the Left Bank, a shy young gypsy girl was selling them for just a little under 200E, she said she had made them herself, after raising these tiny little silk worms..could it all have been a lie??? Horrors!
Do you want them back?

RE: scarlett

I hope you grabbed those devine garments from her little thieving hands and left a stinging handprint on her grimy cheek to impress upon her that a life of crime doesn't pay.

Let's have "our people" consult and pick a mutually agreeable time to meet in Paris for the exchange. My fall schedule is a mess and I'm sure yours is as hectic as ever.

Is the Yankee behaving himself and treating you like the refined lady you are?

Oh la, Degas, you know Yankees!
But yes, thank you, he does treat me very well, I think I am very lucky.
The silk undie exchange will have to be planned for next spring, maybe we can meet at a cafe on St Germain, or as you pass by on the Bateau Mouche, I could just toss them to you? Fling them down to your from the Eiffel Tower?
Ask one of those smiling waiters to bring them to you while you sip champagne at Taillevent?
I am sure by then we will have thought of something~

RE: Scarlett

I like the way you think - such style and flair confirmed my earlier thoughts that you had more than a little experience in secret exchanges and "le gamones" of intrigue.

Degas, I engaged Rene for four hours at 200E - was that a good price?

RE: jason888

Thanks - nice to see you enjoyed.

Took some fire today from some folks about me cluttering up the site and annoying them. Was surprised that a post would draw such strong emotion.

And those same folks clutter up this site with negative cranky postings!

Yes, they should all toodle off to the Luxemberg Gardens armed with a picnic basket full of pied de cochon, and a bottle of ansinthe to mellow them out!

I almost missed this one? Degas, you need your own special website. Paid subscribers only.

Is your wife as witty as you are? Are there any little Degas running around the planet...that you know of.
