Sunday in Burgundy...
Ok - hitting Burgundy for 3 days. Figuring one in Dijon, one in Beaune and one touring the countryside, wineries, etc. Problem: one of these 3 days is a Sunday. What would I have the best luck with on Sunday...anyone know destinations/activities open on a Sunday or it is pretty much shut down? Thanks for your advice!

Hi L,
I would choose Sunday for your drive in the countryside.
Check out the route Baune-Autun-Vezelay-Beaune at www.viamichelin.com, option "discovery".
Be sure to fill up the tank on Saturday.
Perhaps your hotel could make you some sandwiches or a small picnic.

I think the olivier thing is great fun and I'm told the women feel he is wonderful if he drops by. Each time I meet him, even out of context (last time in Yorkshire) he seems to remember my name.

Auxerre is a very interesting town - but I suspect almost all shops will be closed on Sunday.
I would visit Tanlay Chateau and/or Ancy le Franc chateau, and/or Vezelay, and/or Fontenay.
Stores can be closed on Mondays too - my wife's favorite shops in Beaune were closed then.

Hi, In Dijon, cafés and brasseries and museums open on Sunday. It is not as lively as a Friday or Saturday (market days) but it is very pleasant.
Stu, most of the shops close on Monday morning only (fortunately!)

Thanks Coco - I forgot to mention that. However, they usually don't open till around 3:00pm or so. Some shops (usually my wife's favorites) stay closed all day in some towns (don't know about Dijon or Auxerre).

One of our days in Burgundy this past September was on a Sunday (I have a trip report posted). We drove from Beune through the northern Cote d'Or as far as Gevrey-Chambertin where we stopped for lunch. A number of the tasting rooms were open - Chateau la Tour was a good stop. Also the Clos de Vougeot was open for touring.
Try to hit Beaune on Saturday morning when the village market takes place.
We went to Olivier LeFlaive's tasting lunch on the following Monday. Great experience. 15 wines and lunch. We also visited Pommard, and the Chateau Meursault that day for tastings.
Even if little is open on a Sunday, it is fun to walk through the quiet little villages. We also had some nice walks through the vineyards.
