Hi Patty,
Thanks for the response. My plan for the next year is to take Spanish classes in Fall & Spring, and go to Madrid in March 2006. Then Chile and/or Argentina next. But gotta get my Spanish first or else I'll be lost.

It's a nice thing you want to learn Spanish first
But many people here (at least in the big cities and touristic spots) speaks English so you won't have any trouble ! Uff, I think that learning Spanish as a second language has to be difficult !! English is easier..no accents, no verbs conjugation..

English is my first language; Chinese is my second. I took a lot of German in college, so that's my third. I also took French before I went to France. I would guess Spanish will be my 5th language. I just need to know enough to get around, I think -- like reading street signs, menu, etc.

We'll be staying in the USA this summer. We are a couple of years overdue to visit my parents in El Paso (ugh, El Paso in the summer), other relatives in Denver, and friends in Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque.
Hoping to visit our niece and her husband in Cambodia over the Christmas Holidays.

Soon I'll begin studying German for my December Christmas Markets cruise on the Danube. My maternal grandmother was German, but she died when I was 8 and just learning the language from her. Still, when I've been in Germany the language seems somehow familiar.

I was thinking to fly to NYC for the long Memorial Day wkend, but I might just stay at home so 1) I should save my money because I always shoppped too much when I went to NYC and due to the call of duty I figured I should 2) work on my thesis and stain my deck :-<
I will, for sure though, be going on a 2-wk Central European trip in about seven weeks starting in Berlin, a stopover in Dresden, Prague, Vienna, and to Budapest. I have been getting tons (!!!) of help of all of the extremely helpful, and very resourceful Fodorites on this board

No plans for the rest of this year until a business problem is worked out but that is alright as right now I am in a mellow mood and happy to be at home, as much as I love to travel.
Will no doubt do a getaway to SF. And will probably go to Santa Barbara and also Portland OR, but nothing firm at this point. I am sort of going day to day regarding travel plans right now.
And then next year Italy!!!

We're planning a two-week trip to Norway, Denmark, and Sweden in late July and early August. Have wanted to see Scandinavia for a long time and finally decided to do it this year. I love planning trips. It is almost half the fun. My husband is happy to have me plan and he is happy to go along and see things he never ever expected to see in his lifetime! I feel very lucky.
