We found good pub lunch to be whatever the soup of the day was, a piece of soda bread, and a pint of Smithwicks. Can not name any particular pub, we ate in pubs all over Ireland and quite frankly never had bad lunch. Also good value for money.

Must see sites are many and subjective. Best idea is to research each with variety of guide books and this site as well.

We enjoyed a great fish fry at McDonough's in Galway - but this is not a pub! We have eaten in many Irish pubs over the years. If it's lunchtime, follow the crowd into a carvery; we only went wrong once, and that was in Cork! Like Curt said, the soup of the day is a good choice, but be forwarned that it is usually creamed!

Galway: Garvey's right across from the Bus & Train Station on Eyre Sq. Try the Seafood Chowder

Dublin: Madigan's (the original) on Middle Earl Street just off O'Connell. Great Carvery Lunch!

In Ireland you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a door leading to good pub grub.

Personally I am not a fan but many in Dublin will do 1-2 hot meals and sandwiches or they may have a carvery.

For a hot food carvery that is in a nice surrounding you could try Cafe en soine on Dawson sytreet. Its beautiful inside with palms that reach the ceiling.

More traditional maybe try O'Neills on Suffolk street(Across from the tourist office in the church) for a carvery or I really like the food in the Dome restaurant at the very top of St. Stephens green a floor above the food court. Nice soups and salads and hot foods with a view over St. Stephens green and its cafeteria style.

Also You could try Davy Byrnes as they do pub lunch and serve food early evening as well. i.e. Beef and Guinness pie etc. This is off Grafton on S. Anne street.

Bruxelles does food and you can sit outside on a nice day and this is off Grafton street (Name of street escapes me) just before the Westbury Hotel.

Enjoy!

A second vote for the carry-out fish at McDonough's in Galway for lunch or dinner. There is usually a wait for a table at dinner, but you can order and eat the carry-out "chips" while you stand in line and wait. Limited wine service only, but you can walk next door and grab a Guinness and bring it back from the Spanish Arch Hotel Bar next door. This is also a good place to eat, although a bit dark inside. The King's Head Pub is also a great choice on the pedestrian mall there, and has a carvery at lunch. It's a very interesting place, well worth checking out.

An absolute must see is Kenny's Bookstore. Allow yourself a good 30 minutes at least.
