Suggestions for Hotels in Venice?

A layd and I are travelling to Venice in early October. We'll be driving down from Munich.

We're trying to book a hotel in Venice for three nights, but are overwhelmed with the choices.

Like most people, we're trying to find that perfect balance between price and quality. We're looking to stay in a nice, clean three-star hotel in Venice itself.

How much does one need to pay for a clean nice room?

The money we save on hotels we plan to blow on dinning.

Thanks to all, Rick

Rick, Go to www.veniceinfo.it and look at these 3 stars:
Pension La Calcina
Hotel Giorgione
Hotel Bisanzio
Hotel Kette
Locanda Sturion

Expect to pay about $150 to 180. Venice is very expensive. Good luck !

Really liked the Kette, mentioned above. The location was great, off St. Mark's Square, and it was not far from the boat dock and it was on a small canal. The room was large, clean, with a good breakfast which cost us about $145 two years ago. We also stayed at the Panda which was behind the clock in the same square. Again the room was smaller, very clean, nice breakfast, three stars, and in the same price range.

We stayed at the carlton executive. Walk across the bridge from the railroad station and you are there. Which means that it is close to the car park. had a room that over looked the canal. or you can stay at the other hotels where you have to ride a boat or drag luggage thru the streets.

You want a hotel with clean rooms and convenience?
We stayed at the Al Gambero in Venice in Oct 99 with another couple. All four of us agreed it was a nice place.

It is located on Calle dei Fabbri half way between Rialto and St Marks. You exit the vaparetto at Rialto and walk.

Rates were 210000L for a double with breakfast. Our room, #1, was recently remodeled and very clean with new fixtures in the bathroom. The room had a double bed, was small, but clean. Also had a safe in the room which helps.

We would stay here again on another trip. Phone is 39 041 5224384 Fax is 39 041 520 0431. We found out about this place on Fodor's and the recommendation was good. Hope this helps you in your search.
