After finding that the 2 day/1night tour to Meteora Monasteries doesnt run on a Friday, we have decided to change our ferry ticket (hoping thats not a problem when we get to Athens!). This results in the following schedule with suggestions needed for our last 2 days in Athens
Tues -Arrive Athens lunchtime - Athens at night tour
Wednesday- morning depart for Meteora Monasterie tour via Delphi - overnight
Thurs - return to Athens end of next day.
Fri am- Ferry to Mykonos
Sat - Mykonos
Sunday- Mykonos
Monday - Ferry to Santorini
Tues - Santorini
Wed - Satorini
thursday - depart 7pm to fly back to Athens
Friday????(this was the original spot for Meteora tour)
Sat??
Sunday early Depart for Brussels
How is it looking - feedback very welcome...
Friday and Saturday.. we havent actually done the "athens thing yet" so thought 1/2 day tour then free wander around the Plaka.. but what about the second free day - what should be a must see/do (the 1/2 day tour will cover the biggies - and we arnt into museums)
Is Friday or Saturday better for the Plaka area or no different. Is everything open on a Saturday or do we need to consider this as well? thanks all for any help

Don't miss walking up to the Parthenon on the Acropolis, then coming back down through the Agora (the ancient market/park between the Acropolis and the Plaka).

You might also check out Syntagma Square. Their changing of the guard is hilarious given the uniforms...

Thanks Jules, Ive made a note of the walk - sounds good. We'll get to the basics in the 1/2 day tour and have the afternoon to ourselves.
With one full spare day though is the best bet to see more around the city itself or should we go to the Corinth Canal or go to Cape Sounion..or other.. needing to decide what we should do with that last full day...holdiay decisions, haha.. life should be so bad...

Athens is a fun and vibrant city. I'd spend both days there rather than go on a day trip out of the city, particularly given the amount of time you are going to be spending moving from place to place or on tours.

As for what to do, what kinds of things do you generally like to do? Knowing that would help answer the question. I know you don't like museums, but what do you like? food, art, shopping, antiquities, people watching, walking, etc.???

Thanks Eleni for the reply. Ive spent the afternoon on the net and found info on the central market and read info on the Plaka area and have decided that we as you said there is plenty to see for 2 days in Athens. I downloaded walks and things to see around the Plaka area and I think we'd love a day just exploring all the neighbourhood. The Central market looks good too. Ill keep going on this theme I think. We enjoy just soaking up places rather than Mueseum and art haunting... although must admit looking forward to the National museum, sounds amazing.
If its ok Ill post again after my searching and get your feedback
regards

Cosmo, if you look at the the top of the screen you will see "Welcome Cosmo". Click on Cosmo and you will get your previous posts. One of the quirks of this board is I've noticed it doesn't always show your post up until you log out or much later.

Cosmo, I was checking out the message board for 5 Takes Europe today on Athens and it made me think of you. I started a new thread on this, but wanted to make sure you saw it, so am also posting here. A couple of people who posted on the 5 Takes Europe Athens forum really knew Athens well, and made wonderful suggestions. Here's the link to page 1 of 5 pages of postings (you can, and should, page through to read all the postings): http://community.discovery.com/group...2011987308/p/1
