Hi all. We're about to embark on our first trip abroad with our daughter, who will be 10 months old when we leave in mid may. We'll be spending the first week or two visiting friends and family in the Basque Country, and then plan on going to Logrono for a night or two before heading out toward Barcelona. We want to break that part of the trip up into two legs, so any suggestions of must see towns on the way? We're keen on wine, sunshine and being outside. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

You'll want to consider Navarra, Aragon and the Priorat wine region if your interest is wine.

How much time do you have?

It is probably better to look at a map and narrow down your driving route between the two places. Zaragoza is en route and is a fabulous city to stop and check out for a couple of days. If you want rural living with some town visits you could base in or around Tudela (in Navarra) and explore that area. There is a little wine museum in the Monasterio de Veruela with a shop where you can try local wines.

Thanks for the ideas. I had looked at Zaragoza but thought it might be too big. We've got time, a couple of days at least, but are trying to keep our driving down to only a couple of hours a day so as to keep the critter happy. I'll take another look at Zaragoza.

A two-hour drive will put you in Jaca, via Pamplona. The next day you can drive over to El Pont de Suert, following the N-260, an interesting drive. The next day you can drive to Berga, continuing on the N-260. It will take a bit longer, around 3 hours, without stops, but well worth it. From there it's into Barcelona in a little over an hours drive. This route will take you through the foothills of the Aragon Pyrenees, which are beautiful anytime of the year.

The above route along the N-260 is indeed beautiful - if you decide to go that way, consider an overnight or at least a stop in Ainsa. You could stop in Jaca, check things out a bit, then drive a couple more hours to Ainsa. In the historical part of Ainsa there are a couple of hotels, lots of bars to eat and drink, and a several gourmet stores with foods and wine from the region.
