Please help!!!! My husband and i would like to go to Italy in June. We would like to get as much as possible done. We only have 7-8 nights. We are coming from Canada. We thought to land in Rome spend 2 nights there then drive to florance for 2 nights and end in Venice for 2 nights.

Any ideas if this would be wise and recommendations on a different itinerary. Thanks for any help i need to book the flight in the next

If you are just visiting these cities, there is no reason to rent a car--much easier to take the train.

Every time you change hotels and travel from city to city you will at least half a day checking out of hotels, getting to train stations, riding the train, traveling to new hotels, and so forth. With two nights in each place, you have only one full day, with travel day tacked on either side. Does your 7-8 nights include your travel days to and from Canada? If yes, I would probably choose just two places, but it is possible to do these three. Many from North America choose to fly into Venice and home from Rome, since most flights to North America leave Venice very early and it's more challenging to reach Venice's airport than Rome's.

Do a search here for hotel. This question is asked almost every day, so there are plenty of threads. In any case, for us to advise about hotels, we would need to know your budget.

Florence/Tuscany and Rome will more than fill your time. I would recommend you spend all your 7-8 nights between the two, maybe with a day trip or two to see the Tuscan countryside from Florence or Ostia Antica near Rome.. Venice is 4.5 hours from Rome and warrants another trip. If you are dying to see Venice, skip Florence, fly into Venice for 3-4 nights and leave from Rome.

This is my first trip to Rome and i wish i could spend more time. It will be definetly 7 nights with an option of 8 nights in Italy. My budget for a hotel would be approx $300 a night. We are thinking of coming in from Venice and leaving back to canada from Rome. From what i understand it is about 3 hours ride from each major city. Is that correct?

I’d suggest flying into Venice, spending three nights, and Venice is a good place to recover from jet lag. Then take the train to Rome for four nights. Fly home from Rome.

Definitely use trains rather than driving – the train from Venice to Rome is about 4 hours, and driving and navigating can be pretty hard work.
