subway ticket

My husband and I are going to Munich for a few days. I'm confused as to which is the right subway ticket to purchase. If we want to get from the airport to the city center and then have unlimited travel within the central area, do we need the "All zones" partner ticket? Is there a cheaper way to get into the city from the airport? Thanks

Some will advise you to use the Lufthansa bus which may be cheaper and faster than using the S-Bahn (either S-1 or S-8). Once you get into the city itself you might look at the "Munich Welcome Card" which can be modified to include all the tram routes, S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines and it allows you to use it on your last day to get to the airport if you wish.

When you arrive in Munich, there is a ticket counter near where you go down the stairs to board the S-bahn (1 and/or 8) into the city. The ticket agent who spoke English advised us to get a family ticket (it was just the 2 of us) that would cover our trip into the city and the remainder of the day. We didn't need any follow-on tickets for following days as we picked up a car and departed the city the next day. I would check with them when you buy your ticket into the city.

When we returned we purchased for 9 euro, a strip of 10 tickets which covers the greater Munich area U-bahn.

Hope this helps. Enjoy Munich and have a couple of Augustiner's for me.
