Stupid questions: Euros to Dollars?
Hi,
I am doing some very preliminary research for a possible 2006 trip to Europe. I haven't been in almost 10 years (went to France), so I was just wondering if all European countries now use Euros? What is the approximate conversion to US dollars? I used francs when I was in France! Thanks!

Most of Western Europe uses the Euro. The most notable exception is the UK.
In terms of the rate, today it's near $1.20US to 1 Euro (but higher for the average person.) But, the rate between now and 2006 could vary dramatically depending on numerous factors. If you can predict with certainty if it gets better of worse for you, then call Wall Street and ask for a job!

The following countries in Europe do not use the Euro
UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lituania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Albania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Liechtenstein are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. By the time you go, perhaps some of the ones on the list will be using the Euro.

beachgirl, at the moment the rate is about EUR1.00 = US$1.24. Here's a good site for up-to-date exchange rates: www.x-rates.com. Other posters will know more about the Euro situation than me - my guess is that the UK won't have gone to the Euro by 2006, nor most if not all of the recently-admitted East European EU members.

You can get daily conversion rates for the Euro (and all other currencies) emailed to you from www.xe.com. Of course right now, it's sort of depressing, but hopefully by 2006 the dollar will be a bit stronger.

There is absolutely zero likelihood of Euro membership before 2007 for any of the countries xyz123 lists (and add Malta, Cyprus, ex-Yugoslavia - like Croatia and Slovenia - and any other ex-Soviet Union countries we've both forgotten to the list).
And I wouldn't hold my breath for Euro membership before 2107

Switzerland uses CHF (swiss franc) and that isn't likely to change. You can find free conversion websites all over the internet. Just type in currency convertor or the like in any search engine. But no one can predict what the rate of exchange will be 2 years in the future.

This site lists the countries that do now, might later, and are unlikely to use the Euro: http://www.wilkiecollins.demon.co.uk...ocountries.htm
