Rex,

Does yahoo limit the size of emails it will process? I know some ISPs will bounce an email that is over a certain size, which is one reason I try not to rely on emailing as a way to transfer pictures. Subscribers, and too often even tech support, seem unaware of this limitation.

I was going to recommend the NIKON CoolWalker (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0401/04...coolwalker.asp)

it looks like you are using SD - coolwalker uses CF. There might be a product similar on the market for SD.

It is too bad beacuse CoolWalker is perfect for what you want to do.

I never used to take digital photos, I HATED all the cameras that were on the market. I used my 35mm Film SLR only.

Then I bought a NIKON D70 DSLR - WOW This thing is AWESOME - the best camera I have ever had !!! It is making me a better photographer. I cannot reccomend this camera enough it is worth every penny

I still use film for longer nighttime exposures(although the D70 does a ok job -better than any digital camera I have seen) and some b&w

I will say that the Digial prints don't have the longevity as film - but hey - just reprint it

I also noticed hotmail recently upped their free accounts to I think 10 gigs? previously you had to pay for more storage. wonder why everyone is doing that now, for free. is it b/c files are so much more huge than before? inflation? what?

I used an IPOD, it worked great. You cannot do this on the mini however and you do have to buy the transfer unit.

I did have three large cards 2 - 256 and 1 512 and I still had LOTS of pictures. One thing that digital did was allow me to experiment and take more photos without having to deal with development costs.

Personally some of these suggestions are just stange. However, I wonder how M-K captures elitism as an emotion!

I used a flash trax on my last vacation and it worked beautifully. It has a viewing screen and downloads were very quick. I went with 2 256 MB cards which held 99 5MP pictures. The machine is available in 20, 30 and 40 MB models.

By the way, leica or digital, it's inanimate. The photographer has the soul. This debate comes up every time digital gets mentioned. Blah blah blah ?

Hotmail? 10 gigs? No, not by a long shot - - but they are promoting an upgrade "this fall" to TWO gigs. Currently, they are still charging people 40 bucks a year for 50 megabyte accounts, and $60 for 100 Mb of storage. And I'm not sure if they raised their old limits of two Mb or not - - maybe it is now up to ten Mb?

Trying to compete, one would be tempted to conclude.

I'm a new owner of a 20GB Dell DJ (similar to iPod.) How do you upload photos from your digital camera to the mp3 player without a computer?

My mp3 player came with a docking port I can plug my flash cards into. Not all mp3 players, I'm sure, have this capability.

I know that you can transfer pics to an Ipod using a Belkin Card reader or the new Belkin cable device that links most digital cameras to an Ipod, but I am not aware of other mp3 players that you can download pics to.
I have recently contacted Belkin and Rio to ask what new developments are taking place. What brand of mp3 player do you have clevelandbrown ? Does anyone know of other mp3 players that will work for downloading pics from media cards or direct from the camera ???

I have an Archos multimedia Jukebox, but I think it has been obsoleted by newer models. I got it with the transfer port, which was extra. It can play music, play movies (I've never bothered with that) and display pictures, but the screen is very small.

Clevelandbrown,

If you don't mind me asking, has the Archos been pretty dependable? Good battery life? I have been looking at one or two of their current models. A couple of them have the flash card slot built in. The video models take a $30 Archos connector to connect the flash card, but the idea of recording from DVD or TV to the device for $300 is kind of appealing.

I have had good results with it for two years now. It seems sturdy, as I have on occasion dropped it, yet it still runs. The paint has flaked off the bottom, probably from overheating when I had it on the floor of our van right over the exhaust.

I initially picked this model because they were evaluated as having longer battery life than the others I was looking at. The reviewer phrased it as up to 5 hours, and I expect it varies depending on what you are doing with it. It does have software that allows you, for example, to turn off the LCD screen so many seconds after selecting music.

I never timed it until recently, but I think the battery life is decreasing as it ages. Now I get about 3 hours of music per charge; I'm almost certain I used to get more. Its out of warranty now, but their tech support tried hard to help me with firmware updates and recharging suggestions, but for some reason, while the manual has instructions for changing the battery, they insist that their batteries never wear out, and won't sell me a new one (I haven't looked, but the instructions lead me to think it is a proprietary battery)! Perhaps they are right and it is working fine; I know I have far more files stored on it than I used to, and I suspect that leads to more battery drain.

I would buy from them again, but I would look into how convenient plugging it in on a plane is. Now, I have to get a seat with a power port (not all seats have them, and my favorite airline doesn't have them at all on domestic flights), plug my power pack into the port to convert DC to AC, plug my recharger into the power pack, and plug the mp3 player into the recharger. I have so many devices and wires in my carryon that security always takes a special interest in me.

If this one breaks, I think I will get a laptop that plugs directly into the plane's power port. I already carry a bag for my camera, etc., and I think I will be able to fit a laptop into that. I like the additional functionality of a laptop.

For air travel I can recommend Bose Quiet Comfort MkII headphones to complete the package - they are much much better than the so called noise reduction headphones offered on various airlines. There is an input jack into the headphones that you can pull ou so that you can walk around or sleep without the cord getting the way.

Thanks for the information Cleveland. Sounds like they make decent products, but I don't think what they are saying about the battery never wearing out is possible either.

By the way, noticed since I have been shopping - Archos makes a car charger cord for these current models (might retrofit the older ones as well?). Straight from the power port to the player.
