Stop between Nantes and Oradour-sur-Glane

Hi !
What would be a nice overnight Stope between Nantes and Oradour-sur-Glane ? We are making a trip from Nantes to Sarlat and we want to do some time in Oradour-sur-Glane. We would visit Nantes in the morning (sleeping there the night before) and we need somewhere to sleep/eat/vist before going to Ouradour and then Sarlat-la-Caneda (Mouzens in fact) Is there a cute village that would be nice for an overnight ?

While not a cute village, I really enjoyed a few nights (3, if I recall correctly) in La Rochelle. Stay down near the harbor for the best views, restaurants, etc.

La Rochelle is quite a detour.....does it deserves it for an evening ?

yes we will have our kids. I'm an history teacher so I guess explaining those kind of things isnt too far from my ballpark.
