Stockholm during midsummer

My husband and adult daughters are planning to traveling to Sweden in June, and the dates that work best for us are over midsummer weekend . we plan to be in Stockholm then for about 3 days before exploring the countryside. Is midsummer a recommended time to be there? I understand it is a big holiday for them. Will restaurants, shops and sites be closed?

I'm sorry I can't answer this specific question, but thought I'd note that Stockholm is delightful at any time, but especially around the summer solstice!

Three days isn't much for Stockholm ... are you sure that will give you time for all the things you want to see and experience?

Enjoy!

People picnickingx everywhere and decamping to the Archipelago. Grab picknick food, knock yourself out in Systembolaget and take out a mortgage and enjoy!

And I agree with kja: Stockholm needs more than 3 days.

Stockholm does get a bit deserted over midsummer, as many people go to their summer cottages on the country side and in the archipelago. While the big museums and attractions are all open, many restaurants and shops are closed. Why not head out to the archipelago yourselves and join the festivities? The islands of Möja, Runmarö and Sandhamn are popular destinations. Or, more daring, head to Leksand (3 hours by train from Stockholm) for Sweden´s largest midsummar celebration...

Grinda is nice, and quite reachable from Stockholm for a day (or night) trip.
