Staying in Rome

Hey Folks. I will be taking, along with another faculty member, a group of students to Italy in May. We'll be in Rome for the first part of the trip and have all accommodations and such taken care of. Once the trip is over I'll be heading to Florence and then to Edinburgh. I'll be going from Florence to Rome to catch a flight to Scotland and I'd like to know where the best area in Rome to stay for the night prior to my Scottish leg? I'm not worried about sites so much as I am getting to the airport on time the next day. I've been to Rome a few times but always with students. We've had our hostels booked so I'm not sure where I should stay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

For cheap access to FCO airport, stay near Roma Termini train station and you can take the Leonardo Express train directly to the airport for 11 euros. There's also a new bus service from there for about 8 euros. If money doesn't matter so much, you can stay in the ancient center and take a taxi for about 45 euros.

We just stayed at the Welcome Piram Hotel, which is about a block and a half away from Roma Termini. We had no complaints, and they serve a breakfast that is included in the price of your room.

Is there a reason you're returning to Rome to fly to Edinburgh? There are flights from Pisa and Peretola (Florence) to Edinburgh.

Rome has two airports, Ciampino, "CIA", and Fiumicino, "FCO". From which airport is your flight leaving?

Thanks for all the tips folks.

Jean-I booked a cheap flight from Rome on Ryan Air. I'll be in Europe for a while this summer and I wanted to save all I could. I hope that I chose wisely.

lovisa-I'll be leaving out of Ciampino.
