Staying in Porto
Hi!
My wife and I are going to Portugal and will be staying in Porto for a few days. We are currently booked into the Grande Hotel Porto. Do you have any recommendations for a place that is better value or is nicer for the price? We don't need to stay in any luxury resorts or anything. Thanks.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel d'Oporto a few years ago: It may have been Grande during the 30' & 40's but it was Retro (i.e., not Modern in any sense of the word). Other than a nice location it doesn't have much to offer. And if you are driving, forget it!
I think I would lean toward the Resort in Espinho (less than an hour's drive south on the Coast), but that's just me.

Thanks for your comments.
BTW, apologies for posting this and another question twice. The first time I posted this question, it went on the Gen Interest board and I thought I would get a better response by reposting on the Portugal thread.

I am also looking for a place to stay in Porto, but it seems, parking may be a problem since we are driving in to the city. So now I wonder if Vila Nova de Gaia across the river is a good alternative. Has anyone stayed there rather in Porto itself ? opinions ?
Buddha, sorry for tacking to your post. Lately, I've been having problems posting .
