staying in a castle

Hi,
I will be spending a week in London, over Thanksgiving, with my 14 year old daughter.
I am wondering if any one can suggest an overnight trip that would allow us to see some intersting sights and then stay in a castle or some other unique hotel. (We stayed in a castle while in Germany and thought it was fun.)
I am open to tours, trains, renting a car, etc.
I wouldn't want to travel more than a couple of hours.
We have already been to Stonehenge and Bath.
Thank you.

Not sure how to post a link to an earlier thread, but if you click on my name, there is a similar earlier query ( thread no 9 or 10 ish ) with quite a lot of info therein. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thank you.
Any idea of which castles are within a couple of hours from London?
Also, which offer other area attractions than just the castle?

cpeicott, We plan to stay just outside
of Bath at Thornbury Castle. I have read fantastic things about the place and cannot wait. You can find it under
vanessenhotels.co.uk. Take a look.

Hi,
Thank you.
Please tell me what the closest 'castle hotel" is to London.
How long will it take to get there?
What is the easiest way to travel there?

One more thing, do the discount hotel sites offer rooms at places like Thornbury Castle?

Not far from London is one of Henry VIII's royal hunting lodges, located in Egham, Surrey--close to Heathrow Airport. It's now a very nice period hotel called Great Fosters. Some of the rooms in the main house are vast, with marvelous antique furnishings, and there's an authentic knot garden. Nearby is Runymede, where the Magna Carta was signed, and Windsor Castle isn't far off. This would be a nice overnight trip.

Hi, Thank you.
Any suggestions on how to get there from London? Is there an easy way to get to Windsor Castle from there?
Any other suggestions on an overnight trip from London?
