Stay in Sevilla
Hi,
Would it be too foolish to stay in Carmona for a 3 day Sevilla visit?
I could not find nice and affordable hotels in Sevilla during the Biennale and I have 2 shows to attend on the 26th and 27th of September.
All the Sevilla hotels seemed impersonal, too modern/un-charming to our taste.
So we intend to stay at Alcazar de la Reina in Carmona and do the daily trip back and forth to Sevilla.
Too foolish???
Feasible????
Thanks for any suggestion.
Vik

you may want to look into a hotel that is nicely situated in Barrio Santa Cruz...Las Casas de la Juderia...we felt that it had a certain amount of quiet charm, a beautiful entry and comfortable rooms. We went back once, and also touted it to two of our family and two friends, each of whom were more than satisfied. (walk most everywhere)

Sometimes people are on edge in this forum...
Obviously, when I say all the hotels seemed... it means all the ones that I visited on line (and I could not have visited all the hotels of Sevilla...). And that is why I started this thread hoping that s.o. can come up with a suggestion
Also, I know that there are some VERY expensive and charming hotels in the city, but based on my Carmona hotel choice (which rightfully you are not familiar with), my budget will be around 100 euros.
Unfortunately I am already spending too much on hotels elsewhere (average 150 euros so far in Ubeda, Granada and Ronda) and I thought I could get something good around 100 euros in Sevilla.
Please be patient with my lack of initial lack of explanations ... but I am in a panicky mood ;-(

Hi Forno,
I've just been trying to book a hotel in Seville for those dates and they are filling up fast. but i did not find a problem with them being too modern etc - there are literally loads of boutique-type hotels, but most of them out of my budget, and the ones that weren't were full.
we ended up here
http://www.sevilla5.com/hotels/hotel-don-pedro.html
a double with a balcony has cost us €80 per night through Venere, as seville5 said those rooms were full. I can recommend their website - they have a whole range of hotels in all price-ranges, with very full descriptions which i found helpful.
another option you might like is casanumero7.com. It is recommended by maribel in her guides [www.maribelsguides.com] and as of saturday they had at least one vacancy, for which they quoted us €177 per night. it might be more to your liking than a chain.
good luck,
regards, ann

I think you are seeing Estrella Morente and Pastora Galván? Lucky you! Two of the most forceful expressions of female flamenco these days and very different. I recommend you to stay in town. The week before we stay just north of the Santa Cruz district. I know the area and would recommend it to anyone. booking.com is great.

Yes sometimes people get snappy...tsk tsk.
I agree though, staying in Sevilla is what you want to do especially if you are staying during the bienal. Good for you going to see this great festival I have yet to go. Hope you have a blast!

Thank you all!
I ended up booking at Don Pedro (thanks annhig) and Vime.
Should choose quickly between the two to let others the chance...
Yes, I lucked out with the last tickets (almost) for both shows. We are very excited to discover and rediscover them...

Hi forno - glad to have helped. if you go for the Don Pedro we may meet! [and we are going to Estrella too, c/o Kimhe's excellent advice!]
DH liked the look of the Vime, but for some reason I didn't fancy it. what rate did you get there?

we have been to Seville 5 times, we always end up at Plaza De Armes. It is a busines hotel, 4 star, well located but very reasonable and has the huge advantage of a large roof top pool. Comes in handy when it is 47oC as it was last time...
and people wonder why they have siestas in Spain.

Forno - what's that in €?
i can see that we'll have to wear red roses in our button holes and carry rolled up copies of the Times.
yanumpty, thanks for mentioning the plaza de Armes.

perhaps if we were going to be there in august or had been before, but I was hoping for somewhere a little more atmospheric? but it looks fine for a modern hotel. the rate they are quopting for that weekend for a standard double with breakfast is €107 per night.
i hope we don't live to regret not having that pool!
BTW, so far as i could tell, you are free to cancel up to 6pm on the night of arrival and after that woudl pay one night's no-show fee. Have I got that right?

Oooops! that should be euro of course. That is 253 euros for the 3 nights of our stay.
My booking conditions, through Booking.com has • until 23 September 2010 23:59 for a no fee cancellation.
Yanumpty, I had seen the NH hotel (and they have very nice hotels all over; it's a chain I discovered through this trip planning), but they are a bit far I think (was told) + they were sold out on the dates that I wanted. Thanks anyway.

If any of you go late in a season try the clothes shop Adolfo Dominguez in Seville. They are a Spanish top end chain and a little like a Spanish "old school" Armani. Very stylish clothes and good sales at the end of season.
I bought a cashmere winter coats reduced from 700E to 200E : very handy for the Scottish summers.
