stavenger to leiden
We are taking a woodturning cruise on the west coast of Norway in late Aug. 2018. We finish in Stavenger and want to go to Leiden for genealogy / ancestor reasons. What is the best way to get from Norway to Netherlands? Thank you!

Fly- check www.skyscanner.com or .net to see where flights go from.
By train of course is a long long 2-day trip at least.
Leiden is very close to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. direct trains constantly from airport to Leiden, a gorgeous old town with canals and a famous university.

Ditto PalenQ. Take KLM Cityhopper from Stavenger to Amsterdam. https://www.kayak.com/flights/SVG,ne...-23/2017-08-30. Book RT and dump the return ticket.
Also in Leiden visit St. Pieterskerk with stromg connections to the Pilgrims and several US Presidents. https://notesfromcamelidcountry.net/...rskerk-leiden/.

Am dreaming that we might do a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest! Has anyone done this, have ideas about the different companies (Viking, Ama, Avalon), advice? Thanks!>
May want to make a separate post with this in the headline to draw attention - many here have done such cruises and you will get a better answer with a new post.

Leiden is beautiful. The area around the old university building is beautiful, the Hortus Botanicus right behind. The centre of Leiden is very much the university, Rapenburg, Vliet, but also the warren of alleys surrounding Pieterskerk. Leiden is the oldest university in the Netherlands, having been founded with a legate by William of Orange himself. If you have a chance to see Paul Verhoeven's Soldier of Orange, you'll see a good deal of Leiden student life in it, albeit on the brink of world war 2.
Disclaimer: I studied there, one of the small, exotic languages majors for which Leiden is best known, and I lived on Vliet.
