Starting Itinerary for Germany
I need a little help with my Germany adventure. I'm hoping the collective could help inspire me.
My wife and I are in our mid to early thirties and seek less touristy type adventures through the country. I am comfortable with driving in foreign countries so that is not an issue. I like historical sites but it's not really my wife's thing so I have to limit those sorts of thing. We mostly like enjoying the culture of new places (food, drink, people).
We plan to visit in late April into May. I found a festival in Munich that touts itself as a mini Oktoberfest. My idea is to fly into Berlin and then out of possibly Munich over the course of about 14 days (give or take). My biggest problem is that i really want to spend some time in Bavaria. It seems so peaceful and beautiful. From my reading, lots of people just drive through this area stopping along the way. Not really staying in any one particular town and then venturing out from there. We travel a little heavy (baggage) so hopping from hotel to hotel is kind of a pain.
Is there a good base town for Bavaria? Hub and spoke type of travel in the region.
How much time is enough time to see/ get a feel for the area?
In a 14 day trip (spending 3-4 days in Berlin and time in Bavaria) what other cities should I plan to visit. Considering time and distance.
