Stansted Airport to Ruislip...HELP!
I will be arriving around 9:30PM at Stansted and need to get to Ruislip, where I will be staying. I am a bit uncomfortable taking public transport, being at night and a woman traveling alone, with baggage! Would a taxi be extremely expensive, or the best bet...expensive or not? I would appreciate any input. Thanks. I'll be leaving in 2 weeks...with a stop in Paris prior to the UK. I'm a fairly seasoned traveler...but this one has got me a bit nervous.

I'm not clear where Ruislip is. Surrey? If so, it's miles and will cost a fortune. I take the Stansted Express into Central london in the late evening on a regular basis and would suggest that bit at least is unlikley to cause you problems.

Some else can answer the rest. Have you been to London before

I have not tried to do the journey either, but do know a bit about getting around london by public transportation. Following Sheila's suggestion, you will arrive in Liverpool Street Station and depending where you are going in Ruislip, you will either take the Metropolitan Line if your destination is Ruislip Manor or Ruislip, or the Central Line if it is one of South Ruislip, Ruislip Gardens or West Ruislip. Since these are all in the far NW corner of London, zone 6, I would imagine you are looking at 45 minutes to an hour from Liverpool Street. So, if you know where you are going in Ruislip, and it is near one of these tube stations, you will probably arrive around 11:30 PM and it will cost you about 14 pounds. If you do not know where you are going in Ruislip relative to a tube station, or if it will require a taxi from one of those stations, you may want to consider a prebooked minicab from Stansted, which will cost 35 pounds and take you door-to-door. It should be a lot faster since it will use the M25, avoiding central London. This is one company you could try: http://www.proteus.demon.co.uk/taxi.html
