ST TROPEZ?

There are a variety of types of hotels there. Of course, there are a number of places (resort like) but not many along the beaches out of town. There are a couple of very upscale and expensive "compounds". We stayed several nights right in the "heart of the action" on the harbour at the three star Hotel Sube with a balcony looking out to the harbour. We loved it. As I recall it took us several hours driving from there to Nice, but we went in and out along the coast, by the Auto Route I would imagine it normally to be just a little over an hour -- it is a bit of slow going to get from St. Tropez to the AutoRoute, however, especially with the August traffic.

St. Tropez is roughly an hour's drive away. In the old town just up the hill from the harbor, we stayed in the Hotel La Ponche, a great little hotel in a wonderful location. Also had a very good restaurant. Only problem is that in that part of town, if you are driving as we were, you have to sorta cheat and drive up to the hotel through a non-traffic area to discharge your luggage, then let the porter drive it away to legal parking. When we were ready to leave, the porter drove the car back to the hotel, and as we drove down a pedestrian lane to get out of town, an old Frenchman cursed and screamed loudly that I should not be driving there. I just shrugged my shoulders like an Italian and kept going.

We went to St. Tropez last summer and stayed at the Sube Hotel. It was nice however would have preferred the Ferme d' augustine in Rammetuelle, it is right across the road from Tahiti Beach. I think they were in the 130 usd range.
Enjoy,
Steve
