I'm looking for information or advice on Les<BR>Sources, which is B&B in St. Remy. What is it like, is it a good location, etc.? I would also appreciate any other recommendations for <BR>good B&B's in the area, St. Remy - Avignon.

Ray,<BR>Just spotted your note on B&B in St. Remy. A couple of years ago we stayed at Chateau Roussoin(sp) just about 3/4 mile out of town. The rooms were large andthe Chateau ws agreat place to wind down and rest for a few days. It would be agreat place to stay if you needed a base for day trips. The staff was very nice to us and the grounds were perfect for lazing around with a good book. Some meals are available and you can also walk into town . I think we paid around 80-100 dollars a night for a triple . Only complaint , the shower stall was quite tight. Otherwise would stay there again in a heartbeat. Good luck . Ray I'm booked at Les Sources. From what I was told, it's a 10 minute walk to the center of town. I was quoted an excellent price for my trip in May. Philippe has been very nice to converse with (via email). Here are a couple things he wrote to me: <BR><BR>Market day in St Remy is on wednesday morning, and in easy walking distance<BR>(10 min) from Les Sources.<BR><BR>We're a B&B, so we don't serve <BR>lunch and dinner. But there are plenty nice restaurants in walking distance. <BR>Most of our guests take breakfast on the patio, then hit the road (to Arles, <BR>Aix, Avignon, Lub&eacute;ron, etc...). We see them re-appear by late afternoon for a <BR>shower, and then they walk to town for dinner.....supermarket (one wall to wall deli if you ask me..) around the corner... <BR><BR>Ray, when will you be in St. Remy? If you are going after I return (late May) I can email you my comments on the place.<BR>

We also stayed at Chateau Rousson several years ago. Its a lovely old building, slightly time worn but very romantic. There is a long tree-lined drive and a wonderful garden in the back. Our room was quite large. I recall it being about a mile from town. We found it to be a great central location for exploring Provence.

It's actually Le Chateau de Roussan, in San Remy.

Monica, thanks for the info about Les Sources. We will be in Paris from Sept. 15 to Sept. 21, but in Provence from Sept. 21 to Sept. 28. I would appreciate any comments from you. Good luck on your trip.

Sam, How good it is to know that we still have those people who will use a chat board to correct insignificant omissions in the name of a hotel instead of giving any real advice. Keep up the good work! How dare we leave the "Le" out of the name!! Regardless the "Chateau Rousson" is a very nice place to stay.

I checked into Sources for a end of June, early July trip. emailed them back and forth. I finally decided I needed air cond. since I have asthma. When I emailed back about my decision, I was amazed that Phillippe wrote me back and offered to help me find a place with A/C if needed. It was the nicest gesture. She did help me find a studio with A/c very near Sources at a very reasonable price. I plan to go there for breakfast each morning and am really looking forward to meeting her.

Well, I just reread this thread and realized that Philippe is a man. Don't ask me why I assumed he was a woman except for the very nice, helpful email correspondence. Not that men aren't helpful at times, but usually I find women take more time to help you. Now I am looking forward to meeting him to thank him for his help. I also know someone will point out that Philippe is a man's name. At any rate, I am looking forward to reading your reports after you stay there.

Don't be too embarrassed, ggrant, about assigning the wrong gender to Philippe. Although it may be pretty uncommon today, Philippe can be a woman's name. (Philippe Lesbahy, wife of Gilles Berthelot, helped design the Chateau d'Azay-le-Rideau.) Likewise Claude, usually a masculine name, can belong to a woman. (Claude de France was the wife of Francois I.) On the other side, Marie can be (part of) a man's name. (Voltaire's real name was Francois-Marie Arouet.) So, you can never be entirely sure about French names.
