ST.PETERSBURG SHOPPING...

Could some one tell me the name of 1 or 2 places to shop in St.Peters.
Like a mall or galleria with good stores and also for souveniers.
Thanks.

We bought some excellent souvenirs at a street market adjacent to St. Isaacs church. There is a good sized market there.

Gostiny Dvor, Nevsky Prospect is a department store, they have amber jewellery, usual souvenirs plus Russian chocolates and champagne, amongst other things that you usually find in a department store.

just an update- as of this past fall, the "Dom Knigi" on Nevski (in the former Singer swewing machine building) was closed- people were picketing the closure, but it was closed.

We found that some things in Gostinny Dvor were actually impossible to find anywhere else at a better price (esp. laquered floral trays, souvenir-ish things). The rynok (open air market) behind the Cathedral on the Spilled Blood is good, as well- it is open into the fall, too.
