St Andrews for non-golfers
We will be in St Andrews at the end of May and I'm looking for things to do while my husband plays golf. This is his dream trip and we're really looking forward to it. We've been to St Andrews before, so have explored the main sites already. I won't have a car, so that limits my options. Are there tour companies for daytrips available? I can't seem to find any info. Maybe a local bus to Crail? I really appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance!

Trains run from nearby Leuchars to Edinburgh and take only about 45 mins i think - by train or bus (buses also run frequently to Edinburgh) you can also easily go to Sterling, a cute regional town and castle of Braveheart fame - actually a national patrimony this castle. Glasgow's not far away either.

It is true Stirling/Edinburgh (hardly Glasgow) are not far, but since you've been there before my guess is you've already visited them.
There is plenty to keep you busy in Fife - but a day trip into Edinburgh if you run out of other things to do is easy. Besides the fishing villages - there is Falkland Palace/Gardens and Hill of Tarvitt House.
I'd also try to book a dinner at Peat Inn - really REALLY good.

Edinburgh and Stirling make nice day trips. I think Glasgow is probably too far, it would certainly be a long day. From Leuchars, you would have to change trains in Edinburgh to get to Glasgow. The fastest bus from St Andrews still takes about 2.5 hours to get to Glasgow.
Anstruther, on coast of Fife, is a neat little town, close to St Andrews by bus, has the best chip shop in the UK and is a generally nice little fishing village. It would make a nice afternoon.
