May is absolutely beach time in Andalucía. In Málaga city you have the Malagueta and Caleta beaches very close to the city center. And the Las Acacias beaches just east of the city center, in Pedregalejo, are very popular. Taxi/bus in 5/10 minutes. Also lots of excellent beachfront restaurants here that are very popular with locals. http://www.pedregalejoplaya.com/
