I am an extremely budget conscious traveler. I have to penny pinch just to go on my trips and I usually spend about $1200 for two weeks after accomodation and flight when I travel solo. I ate for about $30-$40/day. Yes, dollars. I take about 500 euros in cash and charge the rest. I just use the ATM if I need more cash.

I pretty much ate a crepe every day in Paris and had several picnic lunches. I had the meal deal at Tesco's in London and also took a picnic a few days there. I also just eat an early lunch and then dinner so I am only dealing with two meals, unless my accomodation serves breakfast (where I do not stuff food in my purse after - though I have seen it done!).

I admit in Paris, I took a few more food liberties. Everything I put in my mouth there was incredible! I try to pick two or three nice places that I will eat for my splurge.

I would love to eat at nice restaurants and be a "foodie". But, I do not want to take one trip to Europe and have it be the "trip of a lifetime". I want to go every other year if I possibly can. It's all about choices for me. I was hesitant about posting on here since I'm not very experienced and I might get heckled on this forum, but I research before my trips and try to be as economical as possible while doing all the things I want to do.

I have only traveled to Europe three times in the last five years. I am doing Rome, Florence, and Venice next March. I hope you will consider writing a trip report. I would love to hear about your trip!

I don't particularly consider myself thrifty, and we averaged about €100 a day during two weeks in rome for the two of us.
That excludes accomadation (we rented an apartment).

We tended to spend somewhere between €30 and €60 a day in restaurants, and that normally included a bottle of house wine.
