I posted questions concerning spas in Tuscany several weeks ago. I was in Chinciano Terme several years ago and had a facial and it was great. I didn't have time for anything else. I am going to Italy in less than 2 weeks and was interested in Montecatini Terme which is close to where we will be staying. Anyone have any first hand knowledge. Thanks

An Italian friend recently recommended Saturnia to me (nice facilities, stylish, rather fewer Germans and rather more Italians). To research Italian spas put in "terme" (which means hot springs) into your web search engine. Some of the sites will have English versions, and virtually all have contact info.

I've never done an Italian cure, but have enjoyed doing it in France (thalassotherapy). The Italians tend to emphasize the medical benefits over relaxation (at least the web sites do).

Several trips to Italy and I've yet to get to a spa. It's on my 'to do' list. The websites I've looked at do tend towards the medicinal/therapeutic value (works for me!) rather than a day of beauty/relaxation at Elizabeth Arden's. Also many of these destination spas offer packages of several days to a week or two, so you can take the waters or experience the mud and get their full benefits. I'm under the impression you can stay in the town (as with Montecatini Terme) and go to a spa for treatments on a day basis.

One place that intrigues me is the Grotta Giusti in Monsummano Terme (Tuscany region). Also seen good things about Saturnia. To further your research, check out the website www.spafinders.com.

I found a good site for Saturnia that's in English at:

http://www.termedisaturnia.it/English/index.html

Some of the links are broken, but you can eventually find all the information (including detailed information about the cures and rates and so forth) if you are diligent.

I've posted elsewhere here about going to Previthal in France early next year. But maybe I'll choose Saturnia instead...
