Spain trip Report Oct 10/2-10/16/2024
First I would like to thank everyone who answered with suggestions great and small:KTtravel/Revulgo/Karenwoo/Madam397/bilboburgler/michaelpanko/danon..And of course my guardian angel with whom this trip would not have been possible giving endlessly suggestions and time and was truly my inspiration ..Maribel!!
Madrid 4 nights with a stay at Ibis Styles Prado..Fantastic location literally walking distance to everything we wanted to see in a great location
Experiance highlights: A Tuk Tuk tour for a city overview(nice guide but overpriced and not a good value)/Royal collections Gallery across from Royal Palace(excellent!)Prado/Plaza Mayor/Reina Sofia/Mercado de Anton Martin(Bar lalopez..excellant!)/Mercado San Miguel
Las Ventas mano y mano bullfight(omg what and awesome display of Spainish pride/culture and tradition!..truly a highlight of this entire Spain trip)
Walks of Spain Food and Wine tour(overpriced and not a good value..at all)
We liked the atmosphere at Casa Alberto but was not impressed with the food
We dined at Alabaster which was in an awessome neighborhood and the the food experiance was haute for sure
Train to Seville for 3 nights
3 night stay at H10 Casa de la Plata..very nice place..thanks Maribel for this and infact all the hotel suggestions.
Experiance highlights: We had a guided tour of Seville Cathedral and Giralda Royal Alcazar and city walking tour with Seville walking tours(recommended) and took in a Flamenco show at Casa de la Memoria(another display of awesome Spainish culture and tradition..Thanks Maribel for the suggestion to get in line early..sitting front row of a 50 person theater with the dancers toes alomost toughing our knees was another top 5 highlight for sure!)
Cafe Comercia for churros and chocolate(how decadent!) .
We did have a nice rice dish at Cafe Paseillo for dinner one evening
Baco cuna 2 is now closed and the sister eatery Baco Victoria Eugenia has taken its place a few doors down on the corner.
Setas de Sevilla was right around the corner from us.
Bus to Granda (easy, chaep and a very comfotable mode to get to Granda)
2 Nights Puerta Real Eurostars
Granada was chamimg and electrifyling at night with so many people (manly young) on the Grand Via
The highlight here was the Alhambra with Margarita.. a fantastic experianced guide who knows evry inch of history of the complex.(4 hours with her..money very well spent)
we dined at Bodega Casteneda on wine and tapas..good stop
we did a free tour opf the Albaicin and Sacromonte with Walks in Granda.. was a fantastic tour with a great guide Rueben..The tour was free.. you tip the guide..great value!
we of course went twice to Lopez Mezquita for delicious pastries and had a drink one evening and a tapa at Casa Enrique a couple doors down for our hotel
Flight to Barcelona
4 Nights Barcelona at H10 Art Gallery in the Eixample..Nice neighborhood
Picasso mueseum/Old town and gothic walikng tour/Park Guell and Sagrada Familia
Americas's cup was in town for the race so that was nice to see by the waterfront.
We had tapas and tasty rose cava at Can Paixano which is a 1minute walk form our best dining experiance on this trip to Spain..7 Portes (180 yrs+ in the same location) thanks for this reccomendation Maribel the roast lamb shoulder and Manolete Paella was a culinary experiance never to be forgotten.I would compare this to New Yorks Four Season or 21 Club restaurant (both no longer in business .Between the atmosphere the piano.
player, professionall waiters and the food this place has it all.
I hope this post is not too lengthly but I felt I owed this to the people that made suggestions.
Again, most of all Maribel thank you this trip made a lifetime of memories for my wife and I thanks to you!
