Bus is also an option. It takes the same amount of time and the bus station is located within walking distance of many of the hotels in the Juderia and cathedral area (saving you taxi fare).

There are only a couple of Trains Daily (ALVIA) from Sevilla or Cadiz and the Thru Trains cost almost twice as much as the 'all Turista' trains that run almost hourly. The trip on the latter takes about an hour and a half.
Comes SA Buses mostly depart from Sevilla's Prado de San Sebastian snd call at Jerez de la frontera, el Puerto de Santa Maria and Cadiz. As I recall, they take about two and a half hours Sevilla-Cadiz.
There are also thru Buses (Socibus SA & SecorBus SL) that depart from Sevilla's Plaza de Armas (main) Bus Station.

To further clarify: I just checked the hard copy of my timetable from Comes I picked up in April when I last took the bus from Cadiz to Sevilla. There are 10 buses a day that go from Cadiz to Sevilla (and vice-versa) on the autopista - only one stops in Jerez and El Puerto de Santa Maria. The other 9 are direct. The trip takes a little under 2 hours. The Comes bus I've taken has always arrived at the Prado de San Sebastian in Sevilla (with the exception of one year when it was late afternoon during Semana Santa and the processionals necessitated a change of bus station).
I also don't recommend taking the Alvia train from Cadiz to Sevilla as it is much more expensive and takes 1.5 hours (not much time savings for the expense). The Alvia is often booked full in tourist class as the train stops in Sevilla and Cordoba and eventually Madrid. There are actually fewer reegional trains than buses (particularly on the weekends) from Cadiz to Sevilla and these take around 2 hours - the same as the Comes buses. This is why I most often take the bus. There is not a time difference and the schedule is generally better.
The tourist office in Cadiz also has a very helpful one page handout on all of the transportation options and timetables to the different cities in the Cadiz province and surrounding areas.
