Art had me rolling with his take on London. I sure appreciated his excellent sense of humor. This board will be a bit emptier without his wit.

Rex, please pass along my condolences to his family and let them know that we are sorry to hear of his loss, but we sure enjoyed him and his sharp wit while he was here, that's for sure.

I read this news late last night and sat in front of the computer screen remembering the time Art came to the first-ever SF GTG. He had a lovely friend on one arm and under the other arm he carried several photo albums of his trips to Europe. You couldn't miss him when he entered the room because he lit it up with his smile. His goal at that time was to attend every Fodor GTG back then, and I think he was well on the way to meeting that goal back then. I've missed Art on the board and am sad to know he will not be back here.

Gosh, what a shock. Art was one of my favorite traveling companions. I usually prefer to go solo. I have such fond memories of our trip together and sharing the same travel philosophy of planning but not restricting oneself to stay according to the plan. I will always remember Art and I ending our trip in 2001 at Oktoberfest and singing in the beer hall with the other Fodorites and locals for hours. It was the perfect ending. I am sure Art is somewhere up above now raising a toast to his Fodorite friends. Rex, thanks for letting us know and please pass on my condolences to Wesley.

Fodorites, though I did not know Art well, what I did know was what a true patriot he was, also he was very brave and would not give up traveling even after he knew he could not travel to Europe any longer. I also knew how much all of you loved him so. I am glad he knew that before he passed away.

This is so sad, I thought it had sounded as though he was doing better. Although I didn't have personal correspondence with him, I certainly remember many of is posts. I, too, immediately thought of him meeting up with Ed and Wes! My condolences to his family.

I'm possibly too new here to have been familiar with Art, but from the depth of feeling here it's clear that he must have been a remarkable man.

Never met Art in person, but read some of his posts - he was a wonderful person, a true traveler and a fighter till the very end. His inspiration will leave on in the memories of many people whos lives he's touched.

I add my sentiments to all those who will miss Art, his wit, and his genuine warmth. I enjoyed being with him, and I always appreciated his generosity in opening his home for the So Cal Fodorite get-togethers. My sincere condolences to Wesley. Thanks, Holly, for letting me know. Diane

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this news, especially after the recent encouraging post from Art. His enthusiasm for travel was contagious, and he was a kind and intelligent man. He will surely be missed.

I'm so glad I got to read some of his reports...I hope I can have even half the humor, enthusiasm,and zest for life that he had. But now, he can just travel anywhere he wants, anytime he wants, in total good health. Bless him.

I too am deeply saddened by Art's passing. What a wonderful person he was and what enthusiasum he had for traveling. Always willing to answer endless questions with such detail, he will surely be missed.

So very sad to hear this news. My husband and I attended a Fodor's lunch at Art's house, in 2001 or 2002, I think. Though he was AL on this forum I wondered if he was the Art Hussey we had known in the 70's when we were in a parents' club. I forgot about this until the end of the day but he remembered us and asked! We talked about Wesley, of whom he was so proud. We remember Wesley in his cute, smart toddler days! Hope that Art is traveling in wonderful places now.

It was a privilege for me to meet Art at the San Diego GTG in February of '04. He was a delightful gentleman. Oh yes, he was very proud of his photo albums of Eastern Europe. He also spoke very highly of Bookchick and her help with the wheelchair ramp for his house. Thank you, Nancy, for giving him a ride so that we could all meet him. My deepest sympathy to his family and thank you, Rex, for letting us know. There are some people you meet once and somehow they enrich your life.

Sincere, heartfelt symapathy to Wesley, and to all who loved Art.

I will remember Art Hussey as a good and kind man, witty, well-read, well-travelled, patriotic, courageous and (quite rightfully) a proud father.

May we all take along a bit of Art's wonderful spirit on our own travels.

I agree. We lost one of our best.
Art will be sorely missed. Seems like we have to say goodbye to more than one of the frequent, quality posters on this board within the past few months.

And some others, for what ever reason, have been among the missing.

Thanks heavens some of the old regulars are still with us.

I (and I have since discovered) some others have written to Wesley Hussey asking whether he would like to nominate any charities for donations from friends.

One of us can post here with any response.

If Wesley declines to nominate a specific one I'd like to suggest Medicins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) as it concerns both healthcare (of which Art was, sadly, a recipient of extensively in the last year or so) and also is a worldwide concern active in many parts of the world that Art either had visited or would have been interested in visiting.
