Sorrento with Grandma
Last year I took my teenage girls on a package to Sorrento -we loved the location (brilliant for independent travel to Pompeii, Vesuvius and Naples museum) and had a lot of fun.
My mother has always wanted to visit Capri (mainly because of Gracie Fields connection I think!)In a mad moment I promised to take her (no teenagers)for a short break this spring but now I can't really afford it.
Capri will be too expensive I think. So I hope to get a cheap flight from Stansted, travel on the train and book a hotel in Sorrento which:
-has that wonderful views of Vesuvius
-is easy walking distance to centre, train and ferries
-is not noisy
-is as cheap as possible
-is clean and friendly
-does half board so I can predict total costs -she's not a great gourmet-but I've got to be able to eat it too!

Can anyone suggest any suitable hotels? Thanks -I found this site very useful when planning my previous trip so feel free to ask questions.

You'll be hard pressed to get all of that together in one place. The best views in Sorrento towards Naples may still not get you Vesuvius. And those are well away from the train and ferries. The best view of Vesuvius and also less expensive than Sorrento itself might be Sant'Angelo, the next town north of Sorrento. I don't have a specific hotel to suggest but it's one train station away on the Circumvesuvianna commuter train.

Kay,
there are cheap no frills flights from Stansted to Naples airport, daily.
About the suggest of Geoff, there is a little keyboard mistake: Sant'Agnello is the name of the town closest to Sorrento.
Two hotel suggestions in Sant'Agnello: Alpha Hotel, good enough, and Il Pizzo, not a hotel but a very charming villa.
Have a nice trip.
