> <i>The boorish, impolite guest, the guest with unjustified airs of superiority and the guest who subjects his fellows to ridicule is rarely reinvited.</i>
Too bad we can't unreinvite those people. (I find them to be the most intolerable.)
> <i>to be patient with and respectful of those who submit queries no matter how naïve their questions may seem.</i>
Yes! (Weren't we all newbies at one time?)
> <i>regardless of how well meaning our motives may be, to avoid perpetuating and encouraging diatribes by actively participating in them.</i>
That's so hard sometimes.
> <i>to use wit and humor to alleviate the anxieties and uncertainties of novice travelers, not to subject them to what they may perceive to be ridicule.</i>
Great idea, but that takes talent, intelligence, and grace.
> <i>"Behave!"</i>
Aww, come on now- how fun is that?

Ahh, I do miss our Wes, he was a real asset to the board, I, like Connie, was formerly a regular Fodor's poster, but several nasty and mean spirited responses to my posts put me off and I am only recently checking back (I am doing a vow renewal ceremony this Thursday in Paris). The early days of Fodors were really supportive and fun, I hope the spirit can come back!

I believe that this is a much-needed reminder. I began to use this site before a family trip in 2006. When we returned, I felt that I needed to post a trip report, because I had gleaned so much valuable info from reading others'. Guess what the first response to my report said? Something along the lines of "Do others find this report as full of meaningless detail as I do?" Needless to say, I was mortified at my attempt.
It HAS been refreshing, while researching our upcoming trip, to see that everyone seems to be very supportive of currently submitted trip reports. I intend to give it one more try this time around, myself....

I've been posting since 1993, pretty much from the onset of the Forum. I first posted under my husband's name because I was using his e-mail, then under my real name. When Fodor's instituted registration, I changed to the actual screen name.
Wes was here in 1993, his favorite subject was Germany, knew it really well and his advice was always so great. He loved literature, too and I often read his posts as if reading a class dissertation from a professor. He is so missed.

I, too, have been on this board a long time...since 2000.
When I remember those early days, this forum had witty, informative, funny posters. There were many times when I laughed so hard, my belly hurt.
Times have changed. And, yes, Wes Fowler was a prince among men.
