In Paris, "our" hotel is right across the street from the Montparnasse cemetery. Sartre is buried there. His novel was translated from "Huis Clos" to "No Exit", which is how I wish sometimes my vacations would be (no way to escape!), and sometimes how I feel on this Board!

All told, the real translation is "in camera" or "behind closed doors" in a courtroom setting, which defines my real-life profession.

It's been my e-mail address for years. Since my name is Sue and I prefer to be "not home" and traveling, I thought it was fitting.

I'm the proud owner of two English Springer Spaniels and usually don't leave home without a paw (or mouth) print or two on my clothing, so this has become my usual screen name. My real name was also already taken.

Melissa

My real name is Kavita, but I've long been known as Kavey to my friends and have used Kavey to post here since early 1999. Thought it best to stick with it.

My real name was used by several people when I first joined the site. Like Bellairegirl Susan was the most common name when I grew up (5in one class!)so I use the Irish Equivalent. Someone else took Siobhan so now I am now SiobhanP

Sardog10 stands for Search and Rescue Dog Team 10 and was my radio callsign before we moved over here to Germany. We'll be going back to that when we return home.

I started out posting here under my real name before registration (obviously not feeling very imaginative that day) so just thought I should continue.

Fairfax is my middle name. What is currently Fairfax County in Virginia was my family's land grant in the US from the King of England around the 1600's.

I've used my first name and first initial of my last name for awhile now so I decided to stick with it. I couldn't believe it was still available when I registered. Besides, I get the "My Sharona" comment when people figure it out (from the old Knack one hit wonder).

flaneuse: "a stroller who aimlessly loses herself in a crowd, going wherever curiosity leads her and collecting impressions along the way"

Not sure that's the literal translation, but I read it somewhere, and it fits.

Dawn Powell is my favorite American author and ranks right up there with Evelyn Waugh as a satirist of the first stripe.
