Merriam-Webster online gives both definitions:<BR><BR>1 : of, relating to, or devoted to this world and its pursuits rather than to religion or spiritual affairs.<BR><BR>2: possessing a practical and often shrewd understanding of human affairs<BR>synonym see SOPHISTICATED <BR><BR>But it is hardly used in conversation in the UK, in my experience. I would say it would sound rather old-fashioned and would probably be understood in the first sense. Interesting, these subtle differences in our languages.<BR><BR>BTW, Oxford, UK.

Penrith...site of the rowing for the 2000 Olympics...my daughter and I are off on a two and a half month journey!...I'm wondering why those who find Bill's ? so moronic or whatever have bothered to post a reply....it was a curious ?..Bill, I enjoy browsing the replies...I hope your travels are wonderful!...
