Smoking on Trans-Atlantic Flights

Very few still permit smoking; Alitalia is one that does, and I am **definitely** avoiding Alitalia because of this.

At Expedia.com, when you're searching flights, look under the "more info" link next to each flight & carrier. It lists whether, or not, the flight is totally non-smoking. Then, I go to the carrier's own site to confirm it.

The US carriers, British Air, Air France, and a few others totally prohibit smoking (of course, I'm told that once you get on the ground in France, it's a different planet...).

A few weeks ago I posted a thread, asking how rigorously the ban is enforced. Essentially everyone replied "strictly enforced".

In Europe you will seldom be more than 30 metres from someone smoking.Perhaps you should reconsider your trip...please remember you are paying for an aircraft to release tons (literally) of ozone damaging chemicals in to the air.Where can I find a planet where they ban cars & planes?(yuch!)

there is very little fresh air drawn into the enclosed plane cabin, mostly it is recirculated. It does not matter if the smoker is at the far end of the plane, the whole cabin becomes permeated with a stench.

numerous complaints (especially cabin attendants) & health studies are what have led to the whole cabin being declared "smokefree".
