Sleeper to Leuchars

Here be the crazy one again trying to sort out the United Kingdon. After staying in London we will be traveling to Scotland to visit St. Andrews during one of the practice rounds of the British Open. We already have hotel reservations in Edinburgh. I found some super discount sleeper rates that may be available during that time. The end stop for St. Andrews is the Leuchars Station. Does anyone know if the Leuchars Station have baggage lockers for rent, so we may tour St. Andrews during the day and return to the station and go to Edinburgh without lugging baggage around. This sounds too good to be true. Dooes anyone see holes or ghosts in doing this? The train leaves London at 2100+ hours and arrives in Leuchars 0545+-. The other alternative is to pay for another London hotel night and fly to Edinburgh in the morning..Then take the train etc to St. Andrews. Any help greatly appreciated. thax, Richard Luttrell

You do realise that the sleepers don't have showers, don't you ?

Very few British stations have luggage facilities now. I think your best option would be the sleeper to Edinburgh (where there is definitely a left luggage office) then a local train or bus from there. The left luggage offices at the main stations are run by a separate company whose web site is www.excess-baggage.com.

I have a suggestion. Phone a taxi company in advance to take you from and to Leuchars... on condition they store your luggage whilst you have your day out.

I'll get some of my St Andrews pals to recommend a reputable taxi company if you like.

Thank you very much for the replies. We will fly to Edinburgh and take the bus downtown and drop off luggage at the Hotel then take bus to St. Andrews. The Hotel will store luggage prior to room availability and it is close to the main bus station. The current sleeper rates to Leuchars were at £19 & £29 and to Edinburgh £39 & £49 on their specials. Although next year they will be different, but it appeared a very cost and time saving alternative.
