Thanks for posting your report twina. We visited Scotland with our children last year so it brought back nice memories. The rain sounded awful....you were good humored about it.

And the fuel incident was a nightmare. Would be interested to hear later whether it cost you repair $$$.

ccrosner - So far, so good. My credit card statement shows charges added by Europcar two days after we dropped it off, but it was the standard fees I was expecting, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I spoke to the Europcar people the week after our trip and the agent said it "looked" as if we wouldn't be charged for any repairs. I really believe that the only thing they probably had to do was flush the engine since we hadn't started the car.

Still checking my credit card account, and the latest statement doesn't have any additional charges for repairs, so we may have gotten through the diesel fuel incident without any repair fees. Whew!

That would be good news! I was confused as well about Duntulm, but I see you already explained that one I agree, the Quiraing is otherworldly, certainly! !!!

I enjoyed the trip report, and the perspective on places I had also just seen. Time to go back!

Greendragon - I know what you mean about going back. I'm ready to start planning my return!

When I tell people I enjoy traveling to Scotland, they almost always ask if I have Scottish ancestors. I probably do (including a step-great-grandfather who was Scottish), but my main reason is the scenery and the people.

twina49~

Thank you for the enjoyable trip report. Loved the music that accompanied your photos...would you happen to know the name of this piece?
We too, love Scotland and have visited 3 times. We have to keep ourselves from going back "every" year.

Thanks for all the great replies!

celticmoon - That's "Highland Cathedral," which I love, plus this version was the perfect length for my slide show!

Well, today I got a letter from the U.K. asking me to fill out another incident report (apparently the one I filled out while at the Inverness rental office wasn't sufficient), so it looks like we may be charged for the fuel "contamination" after all.

I see nothing wrong with them charging us to flush the engine and the recovery truck service, but I hope it doesn't go beyond that....

Here's an update 13 months after our car situation - The only thing I ended up paying for was an extra tank of gas for the replacement rental car, so here's a big shout-out for Europcar!
