Sky Express Question

Has anyone flown Sky Express with a bag over the 12.5 kilo limit? They require you to call 24 hours in advance of the flight if your bag is over the allowed weight. I just want to make sure that they will allow the bag on board.

I have tried numerous times to email them, but there seems to be a problem with the address on their website.

Oh goodness - I didn't know there were weight restrictions (that were different from the reg airlines). I'll be watching this link and if I am able to find anything out I'll let you know. I'm flying with them in Aug.

Why not try a telephone call or fax?

From the website, it sounds like they allow heavier bags, but with a surcharge.

I'm guessing the contact-in-advance requirement is to make sure that the plane isn't carrying too much weight total, in which case I guess they could stop people from boarding with excessively heavy bags.

"The maximum allowable baggage weight per passenger is 12,5 kg. If there is a need for more weight, please contact the carrier 24 hours before the flight. From 12.5 kg to 26.5 kg there will be a charge of 3 Euro per kilo. From 26,5 kg to 70 kg a seat will have to be booked for the price of the net fare (without taxes). From 70 kg to 140 kg two seats will have to be booked for the price of two net tickets."

We had a problem with Aegean Airlines last year because of two overweight bags, and were nearly denied boarding. We only got on because some passengers didn't show up for the flight. I would really try to cut down on what you plan to take, so that it's a non-issue. Sky Express uses very small planes.

Yes they are. 19-passenger twin engine turbo prop planes don't have much room for any extra weight. Every pound/kilo must be accounted for, thus the inflexible restrictions.

It's easy to pack light for a summer holiday in Greece - everything is very casual there. I bring a few t-shirts & shorts for day, and long trousers & jacket for evenings. I look for clothes that don't need ironing, and can be washed in the room and hung out to dry. The Greek sun takes care of the rest.

I flew Sky Express a few weeks ago to Mykonos and Santorini. They are definitely strict with the baggage weight because the planes are so small. We accounted for this and packed light as a result. However, there was a couple ahead of us online who did not pack light and had a baggage weight issue. I don't think they were aware of the restrictions and they did not call ahead. The woman at the Sky Express counter weighed their luggage and told them how much extra it would cost them. I don't think it was that much over, so they decided to take some stuff out and put it in their carry on to get it to the right weight. I guess it may depend on who is behind the counter, but your best bet if at all possible is to make it easy on yourself and try to pack light.

We were there for 2 weeks and we surprisingly were able to meet the weight restriction (with a lot of thought going into it!) I am normally one of those types who just throws a bunch of stuff in a suitcase not knowing what I'll wear and figures it out along the way. I could not afford that on this trip with the weight restriction...

Good luck! I would keep trying to call to be safe...

My friend called Sky Express.

There is no need to call the day before your flight if you are overweight. The limit is 13kg for checked baggage & 3 kg for carry-on. 3 Euro is the charge for each kilo over allowance.

We booked 2 tickets from Rhodes to Heraklion for 196 Euro total. The best part is that we don't have to deal with the Athens Airport!

"There is no need to call the day before your flight if you are overweight." - OMG, this finally happened! Do they weigh passengers before a trip? What if I am under 100 kilos, do I get a discount for being skinny?
