Skipping flight legs ok?

I put a request in at Flights.com for a fare from Chicago to Zurich. I got $810. I then put a fare for Chicago and London and got $709, however it is connecting in Zurich. Can I buy the ticket and skip the london-zurich flights? I'm guessing no.

You're almost certain to be faced with an "add-collect" if you show up (in Zurich or London either one) having skipped the Zurich-London flight, and expecting them to take you back home. Worst case might be that they say you owe them for a full fare one way ticket to get home.

You have some chance that you can bargain with them after arriving in London, telling them that your plans have changed and that you want to come home from Zurich, not London, There's no predicting whether they will let you do that at no extra charge or not.

The kicker is that your chances are better the closer you get to the actual date of your return travel. But then you would have to have some contingency plan to quickly get to London to catch the flight you're supposed to take - - in case they don't cooperate.

Best wishes,

Rex
Dan---
Not that I suggest you be tricky at this point, but your success might depend on what kind of ticket you buy. If you purchase a continuous ticket from Chicago to Zurich, London, and return, I think Dan is right. But if you buy a ticket from Chicago to London one way via Zurich, and then buy a separate ticket from London back home to Chicago, you can probably do it. I will simply say that I have successfully done the same sort of thing when I found a round-trip ticket from Munich to London was about half the price of a one-way ticket (no, that isn't a mistake; round trip was much cheaper than one way). So I bought the round-trip ticket, flew from Munich to London, then never returned to Munich and caught a separate flight home, separately ticketed.

If you don't take all the legs of your flight your ticket is cancelled--at least that is what happens domestically.
Hardly seems worth the hassle for $100.
Wayne's RT fare being less than one way is par for the course. The reason his worked is because of the separately purchased return ticket.

That's called a hidden city in the travel biz lingo. It's totally illegal and if your caught, you will have to forfeit your ticket, any frequent flyer points, and purchase a new full fare one. They will know that your not on the plane for the remainder of the journey. Is it really worth the $100 difference?
