Ski base - Wengen or Grindelwald
Our group of ten adults, ages 30 to 65, are planning a ski trip to Switzerland next season. Half of our time in Zermatt and the other half in the Jungrau area.
Regarding the villages in Jungfrau, we're debating staying in Wengen vs Grindelwald. We'll be arriving via train. Some in our group don't ski, but all of us enjoy a full day of activities including mountain dining, apre ski partying and in town festivities. Is one village better than the other for that sort of thing. Thanks!

The international Zermatt ski area is the best by far.
As to the Jungfrau area, I don't see a big difference between W and G.
Wengen is car free (like Zermatt) and therefore less noisy than some areas of Grindelwald.
Within Wengen, everything can be reached on foot. Grindelwald has a local bus.
Grindelwald has more ski areas than Wengen (all those of Wengen PLUS the First area). Same remark for the prepared winter hiking trails.
Access to Kleine Scheidegg/Eigergeltscher area is easier and faster from Grundelwald thanks to the new Eiger Express gondola (in addition to the historic Jungfrau railway).
BTW: I live some 40 miles from the Jungfrau area.

I can’t add much to neckervd’s post, but when I spent a winter in Germany several years ago took five weekend trips to Grindelwald/Wengen. We were bused up from Interlaken to Grindelwald, but I found myself doing most of the skiing on the Wengen side where the Lauberhorn downhill race takes place. Every year when I watch the race on Eurosport it brings back memories of that wonderful place. Today if I had the choice I would stay in Wengen, but you can ski in both on the same ticket unless something has changed. It would be easier to get to Mürren from the Wengen side.

Thank you both for your comments. I think both Grindelwald and Wengen would make very fine bases to choose from. We will have to see what hotels will offer 3 or 4 nights of accommodations for our group. My wife and I stayed in Interlaken 35 years ago and enjoyed it immensely and we're looking forward to visiting other parts of Switzerland with our adult children and their spouses!
