Sites in proximity to Oberammergau

Heading to the Passion Play this summer and would like to hit up some new sites. Suggestions? Have already been to Munich, Salzburg, and Venice. Also thinking of possibly hitting Milan and Verona. Southwestern Germany or Austria sites? Haven't decided on exact trip length as of yet, literally just have our play tickets and hotel for that night so far. Pretty flexible still. Have also been to some smaller towns, including Regensburg, Maria Alm, Schwangau, Zell am See, and Kallmünz. Looking to spend about 10 days total including travel.

Places of interest around Oberammergau:

King Ludwig's castles of Linderhof, Hohenschwqngau and Neuschwanstein
Benedictine Abbey of Ettal
Garmisch Partenkirchen and cog wheel railway to Zugspitze, the highest mountain of Germany
Mittenwald, the village of violin makers
100 years old electrical power station Walchensee (uses the difference in altitude between Lake Walchensee and Lake Kochelsee)

Farther away:
Lake Achensee and cog wheel railway Achensee - Jenbach
Zillertal railway Jenbach - Mayrhofen
Upper Zillertal with gondolas to Hintertux Glacier
Zillertal - Gerlos - Krimmler waterfalls
Innsbruck, historic capital of Tyrol
Steinach am Brenner and Brenner Base Tunnel Info Center
Stubaital railway and Stubaital Glacier lifts
Oetztal, Pitztal and Kaunertal, all with gondolas to glaciers
Lindau and Lake Constance

Thanks for the great list. I would love to see Innsbruck and the Abby. Have seen Neuschwanstein in Schwangau, but not Linderhof.
I will look into all of your suggestions.

Hello,
Just starting to research going to the Passion Play. Could you give me the approximate cost of the play and hotel?
Thank you,
Pam

Had a lovely holiday in Bavaria in September 2018.

my report here 3 slow weeks in Bavaria

And we have previously based in Mittenwald for a few trips. We really like little towns

There’s a lot to see locally.

There is yet another Ludwig build, the largest and most elaborately decorated of all: the palace at Herrenchiemsee You can tour it (about 20 of the 200+ rooms).

As to the cost of the Passion Play it depends on whether or not one takes the two night arrangement which includes the Play, meals, and a hotel, or attends the Play only, or does so as part of a tour) a lot of the tickets are given over to tour operators
