silly eurail question, but please help me clarify this sentence
I contacted with rail services officer (from rail.ch) and I got this answer ...
> The reservation on the ICE train Frankfurt Flughafen to Basel SBB is
> obligatory. For the train from Basel to Interlaken, the reservation is not
> compulsory but we advise you to do it. The trains are very busy at this
> time.
>
> Reservations/supplements for 5 persons with Eurail Selectpass
> Saver :
> CHF 15.00 / Frankfurt Flughafen - Basel SBB, ICE
> CHF 15.00 / Basle SBB - Interlaken West, IC
Due to my weak English, I'm a bit confused about "obligatory, (not) compulsory". By the way, train from Frankfurt will leave 02:05 - arrive Basel SBB 06:08, then depart Basel SBB 07:00 - arrive Interlaken West 08:56. My local sales agent whom I buy Eurailpass said that I need not to reserve coz. it's still early and noone gonna use train at this time. Umm???

They mean the same thing. ICE reservations are required, on other trains they are recommended.
I wouldn't think an early morning train would fill up, but (as always) it depends on who wants to go where, and when. Pay the ~10 bucks and rest easy.

Hi sakullak,
It's saying that the trip from Frankfurt airport to Basel requires reservations, and the trip from Basel to Interlaken does not require reservations (but they're advising that you do make reservations for it too).
If the Swiss Rail folks say it's a busy time, I'd believe them. Is this a weekend morning, maybe, with city folks rushing to the ski area?

Reservations are not compilsory on any ICE train in Germany in my knowledge and the www.bahn.de site seems to confirm this. They may be advised but are not compulsory - as for the Swiss train i've traveled on hundreds and rarely have seen full trains especially in first class.
