Side Trips from Munich/Hotel Platzl

I am going to Munich in June & am staying at the Hotel Platzl...anyone ever stayed there?

Also, what would you suggest for side trips from Munich (I will be there 10 nights). Is Vienna do-able? What about Bodensee??

Danke.

We stayed at the Platzl and enjoyed it very much. Very nice room and superb buffet breakfast. The hotel was filled with Americans, mainly tour groups, which didn't thrill us, but we liked it anyway. There is a great large restaurant almost next door with pig's knuckles roasting in the window. After passing it many times, we couldn't stand it any more, so finally ate there our final night. The best meal we had in Munich!!
Hi! My family and I are also going to Munich in June (last week) and are staying at the Hotel Platzl. Keep reading all of these postings because I am getting lots of ideas for our trip. I could repeat them all, but you'll have fun just surfing these postings for interesting replies! Have fun! Maybe we'll see you there!

Patrick,
I have been told that the rooms are small. So, we had to book two rooms for our family of five (three kids 10 and under). Did you find the rooms small? Do you remember if there was a drug store or neighborhood grocery store close by. Do they really drink warm beer in Germany? How did you get around town, walk, bus, car? What do you recommend?
My family and I just got back from Munich last week-2 parents, 2 kids ages 13 and 16. We went to see Neueschwanstein in Schwangau, one of Ludwig's castles. It is down near the Austrian border and the Alps are gorgeous. The castle was beautiful but the mountains were better! We took a train from Munich--it took about 2 hours and then a bus which is right at the train station which takes about 5 minutes. We stayed overnight at Suzanne's B & B in Fussen which we liked very much (Suzanne is American which gave us a rest from our limited German)but you could do it as a day trip.
My daughter and I also went to Dachau but that isn't for everyone. My husband and son went to the Deutsche Museum instead.
I can't comment on your hotel, we stayed with friends.
Enjoy your trip!
