Has anyone stayed at hotel Ravesi, Signum, Capofaro or Sta Isabel in Salina? Would love to hear reviews!

I have decided to spend 5 nights in Aeolian at the Hotel Tritone. I picked Lipari, although your Salina hotels are amazing (I checked them all out), I am going with my best friend for a birthday celebration and wanted something a little less secluded. Then we are going to Taormina for 3 nights staying at Villa Carlotta and lastly 2 nights in Siracusa at Hotel Cavalieri. Can't wait, going at the very end of August through first 9 days of September! Thank you Agave for the suggestion of spending more time in Siracusa. Might have to add another day there and take one away from Aeolian???

If you add a night to Siracusa, you would be more likely to have time to visit Noto, which has some amazing architecture.

Have a great time! Everything sounds beautiful! We too shall stay fro 4 nights in Siracusa at Hotel Lady Lusya then off the Salina. It's now between Hotel Ravesi & Signum. Having difficulties finding room for us. The choice hotels don't accept kids! Oh, well, I'll keep on trying. THanks for responding!

Hi everyone,

My husband and I and our two children, ages 11 and 13, are almost finished planning our summer trip (July, 2010) to the Amalfi Coast and Sicily . Initially, we were planning on staying 5 nights in the Aeolian Islands, but as we love the vibrant Italian nightlife that so many of it's cities are known for, we are thinking about moving these 5 nights to the Sicilian mainland. Our family loves to walk after dinner with the locals and visitors, and we are concerned that we may not find this in the Islands. For example, on our last trip to Italy a two summers ago, the after dark walks our family we took in Rome, Florence, Venice and San Gimignano were so memorable, and that is what adds to our vacation experiences.

Out trip is now the following:

5 nights in Sorrento, Amalfi Coast (we are flying in to Naples)
5 nights in Taeormina, Sicily
5 nights in _________
3 nights in Palermo, Sicily (we are flying home from here)

We are now thinking to add these 5 nights to our stay in Taeormina, for a total of 10 nights, and to see Syracusa, Mount Etna, the Aeolian Islands, and other sites in the area through day trips. We are also thinking we can spend 5 nights in Cefalu or another base that has a vibrant nightlife, great beaches and where we can also take day trips to see the surrounding sites.

Your recommendations would be most helpful.

Thank you very much.

I love all those places, but as much as I love Taormina, I'd have a hard time giving up 5 nights in Lipari to do 10 nights in Taormina, which frankly I think would start to get a little redundant after the first few nights.

I found the strolls at night in Lipari wonderful -- granted not a huge city, but still pleasant enough. We also did one afternoon and evening tour to Panarea and Stromboli by boat and then circled Stromboli after dark to watch the volcano, returning to Lipari about midnight. I loved being able to go to a different Aeolian island each day but coming back to Lipari for the evening stroll and dinner.

Here's another idea with some fun night life and not so far away -- 5 nights in Malta!

Sabrina, NeoPatrick has answered the same way I would--in fact, our trip to Lipari last May was also for 5 days, and we spent almost every day boating to one of the different islands. We loved the islands so much that this year, as part of a 7-week trip to Europe, we've rented accommodations for a week on Panarea and a week on Salina.

Lipari offers the after-dinner strolling opportunities you are looking for. There's a wonderful mix of locals and tourists hanging out in the cafes, at the marinas and along the main streets, and the vibe is so nice.

I definitely would NOT spend 10 days in Taormina, and I definitely would not visit the Aeolis as a daytrip. Give them a little time and they will reward you magnificently.

After coming back from my trip in September, I would recommend definitely spending 3 nights in the Aeolians. I stayed on Lipari, and took day trips to Salina, Panerea, and Stromboli. I loved my 5 nights in Taormina because we really mixed with the locals and took a cooking class. If you like strolling, you will love Siracusa and Noto. Didn't make it to the western part of Sicily, but would have loved to do Cefalu. Regardless, you will love Sicily! LOTS of charm and character everywhere.

I've not been to the Aeolians--yet (I have them on my list) but I think that 10 nights in Taormina is a bit too long. We were there last time in even May and even then, I thought it was overwhelmingly touristy. Gorgeous, but very touristy. Somehow I thought is was more tourist oriented than Amalfi town...

just my own perception, but even so...
